Hey everyone, out of curiosity what times are most of the faster 350 Buick’s running right now on all motor? And what’s the fastest all motor 350 time? Me, my dad and uncle were talking about it the other day and weren’t sure where the times were now. I know there are some 350s with power adders making good power and running good times but I’m not sure what the all motor guys have worked it down to now.
I will say with almost 100% certainty there isn't a 11sec NA full weight street bound GS in the Country,..I'd be a surprised if there were more than 5 10 sec 350s period no matter the power adder
So probably safe to assume somewhere in the mid to high 12s or more often in the mid to low 13s? Or am I way off and there are a few low 12 second ones?
The parts are available now to build an 11 sec. full weight N/A street/strip GS or skylark with a sbb 350, who will be the first? You didn't ask if the N/A car is a race or street or a street/strip faster 350 car? Or if it runs on pump gas or E-85 or race fuel?
If I was gonna build a 350 to run 10s it would be as follows Ta heads do whatever can be done within the casting as is Sp3 cleaned up Real nice 750 ultra hp to keep velocity up on e85 12.5 to 1+ TA rockers Solid flat tappet 255/265ish 630 lift or so on a 110 or 108 Put in front of a th350 4500 stall 8in converter with a 410gear. In a 3400lb car I'm willing to bet it would go low 11s to 10.80s in good air. Guys compromise to much,..they are afraid to put some serious compression or a nasty cam or a hi stall converter. Seems like all these 350 builds have a few good things with a couple of crippling compromises that kill performance
Yeah I probably should've been a little more specific, oops. However with you saying that I am curious what the fastest street/strip 350 is with any kind of fuel. As well as the fastest 350 in general that is all motor in a race car and on any fuel. Also as to what you said Hugger it would be very cool to see some 350s running into the low 11s or high 10s all motor within the next couple years.
Sonny Seal went very low 11s over a decade ago in his full weight 68 GS California. The car was gorgeous with no weight removal. Unfortunately it was crashed at Norwalk several years ago and Sonny never got around to fixing it.
I seen Sonny's twice once in BG and once in OH in 99 iirc,..hell of a nice fella talked to him for few min in BG,..I think we may have even got paired up in BG during test and tune,..
They did tell me about Sonny Seal, I never got to see him run but have looked up photos of his car. That is pretty incredible running that fast with a 350 that long ago.
Big cam ,..dual carbs,..good compression = power that car waswas anything exotic just a commitment to make the 350 run,..no compromises
I see Sonny every week.he still has Tweety, started to put it on a chassis then age and costs caught up to him. Also has that killer motor. His best time was 11.02 with iron heads and a solid cam, spun it to 7000rpm.Modified a chevy intake to work with the Buick heads and used a single holley. The day of the crash his 1000 ft time showed a probable 10 second run.
having run 455's and v6's, I find the 350 to be a good engine to run. true, manufacturers didn't spend billions put into making run like a chevy, but to go out and surprise people is fun with nothing. when we go race the dragster we get a lot of good comments for how well we do with very little. our best is 9.0 @ 147. with a s/c, we should have a carb close to 900 cfm. still use the 650 when I started this r&d project. the engine just loves the 650. the engine is assembled by 'Kentucky windage' meaning i'm not interested in tuning it to the fullest. no gauges, no oil filter, check the oil pressure once in the spring and half year. I've checked the timing once. john turns any where's from 6k to 7500 with the s/c. (ouch) so he says. I used to have a thread on it on the bpg site, but that's gone now. everything was done based on budget. ebay is my friend. lol. so go and build the 350. build the block nascar style so you can go 500 miles wide open and not worry. you won't regret it. just my $.02
I agree on the compression, stuff as much as you can into it. My machinist wanted me to go 10 to 1 for pump gas, I said 11 to 1, mostly because nobody runs 11 to 1 on a 350, and I like being different Big roller cam YES deeper gears than 3.42 which Im running but Im running on street and highway, so Im working around my 3.42 gear by adding a bit more stall, after my completion of hard parts, then I'll fine tune with the help and suggestions of the guys here
Thank you all for the responses I’ll pass that info along to them. All of this has also made me really look forward to the future of the 350s and also gives me some info I can use to try and get my dad racing his 350 again.
My best was 13:98 mild build. TA parts. Stall, shift kit, 30 over , Ported heads. Performance quadrajet.
I really need to get that car and put it back together, I've been wanting to for years and haven't done anything about it. But, I'm getting ready to build a bigger garage so I should have somewhere to put it soon
Yeah most guys run 3.42s and 28" tall tires. They are in 1st gear for 1000'... Huge compression and a 4k stall converter would be a must.
