Looking good Ray, hopefully we get to see it make a pass.

No, we ran out of time at KDK and they had to close. We pick back up tomorrow morning. We idled it and revved it up for long enough to let the thermostat open and be assured that it was running cool enough and to check for any leaks. We have one leak at an exhaust manifold and a leak at the oil pressure sensor. Neither should be a big issue. So, the "Green Hornet" should be home tomorrow.

Ray, Jim is right about more pictures!! Your engine sounds very similar to the one Jim is going to screw together for me, right down to the ported manifolds! Keep us posted on how this comes together, I’m sure this is going to be a really fun car to drive on the street.

Jim, how similar is Ray’s to mine? It sounds virtually identical with the exception of the offset grind on his versus the standard crank we are planning on mine. Hopefully I can expect similar results!

Ray, you have my Super Stage 1 camshaft.. in a 470

He has more cubes and a bigger camshaft.. other than that, they are the same. How much power it will make depends on the cylinder heads. With the same headflow as Ray, with that small cam and the less cubic inches, previous copies of the 464/470 Super Stage 1 motor, thru headers made just shy of 500 HP..

I have not tested the Super Stage 1 build thru manifolds. Ray can tell you what his stock manifolds, ported manifolds, and headers made on this engine.. we tested them all.

The differences in exhaust will be similar to what we will see with yours.

This is the last Super Stage 1 built.. with headers.. That customer wanted a "day 2" kind of look, and headers/bigger exhaust was typically one of the first mods made back then.

    Thanks Jim,

Ray, I’d love to see the numbers comparing the stock, ported manifolds, and headers. I live out in the country on a dirt road and I like the extra ground clearance I get from manifolds but I’d like to know what I’m giving up and at what RPM I’m giving it up.

Yeah Ray, please do! I am most curious about the difference from ported exhaust manifold to headers. My dyno was only using Headers. So I'm curious of the power loss to go with ported exhaust manifolds.
See you in a few weeks.

Somewhere there is a thread already testing ported manifolds vs stock manifolds vs headers.

Yes, I have read this, seems like it was 10-15hp.

    Bigpig455 Fastest of the slow....

I just went through that - Stock 400 hp, Ported 2.3 outlet 67 Manifolds 415 hp, 1 7/8 Headers 434 hp. This is with a 218/230 cam and very stockish heads, your cam and heads could produce different results...
