I just wanted to post a few pictures of my BBB GN. It has a 494 BBB and Stage 2 SE aluminum heads, large tube headers, T/A 608B cam, and even retians the GN serpentine belt setup and powermaster brakes. If anyone is doing a similar project and has any questions, I would be glad to try to help out. Th emotor is out right now due to an oiling problem, but I am trying to get it back in ASAP. Thanks for looking and I am open to any feedback, whether negative or positive. Thanks, Shawn Carlin

That's one nice looking GN! What type of problems did you have installing the BBB, headers, etc.? Those GNX wheels? Job well done.

Yur kar is slow. Why woud you want a biuck engine? That is a gramma car.
Put in a chebby Krate 350 and then you wood have sumthin.

Now using the buick reality translator:

Sweet friggin ride, man! Remind me not to race you in my stock GN, okay?

Dan, since it's powered by a Buick engine and not a Chevy it's ok with this GN owner.

Thanks guys. The hardest part of the swap was the headers. I finally got them on with a little help by removing and replacing 1 tube by the brake proportioning valve and tweaking the one that was hitting the lower A- frame on the driver side. The passanger side header fit, but had to tweak it a little for that A-frame. I also run synthetic brake fluid now because the headers are close to the brake lines. Also T/A motor mounts.
I do get a lot of comments on why I took out the V-6. I am hoping to have it back on the road soon.
Terrance, I still have the motor in the car. I am waiting to recoup some of my hurricane damage expenses soon so I can fatten my car account. I still have to order my sfi balancer, flexplate, and dominator intake.DOES THE SPENDING EVER END???? :ball: ? hopefully I will get the motor out this weekend.
    Thanks, Shawn

Cool car and nice work. I have a GN and a 509ci big block in a G-body. Both street cars. Its a little cheaper easier better mileage etc to make the turbo motor run solid 11s but the cool & the fun factor is still better with the big block. :3gears: Most of the turbo guys will get over it if you can show them a time slip thats faster than theirs. You probably had a turbo motor that needed to come out for a rebuild or something anyway and might tell them that to ease their pain.

I used a built TR 2004R tranny, lock up converter, Q-jet, and a reasonable cam in an attempt to get enough mileage to make it useable as a daily driver if needed. Took an out of state trip this summer and managed 17mpg at 75mph. I probably would have gotten about 22mpg with the GN but I was pleased. I also used the baffled GN fuel tank to do an eazy in tank electric fuel pump setup with a return style regulator. Inexpensive safe quiet reliable cold fresh fuel setup. Key is having the hard to find baffled intank hanger setup GN tank. The serpentine setup you did is real cool. Makes it different and adds some cool factor.

    Wow Shawn, awesome engine!!

You asked for some feedback, well I can only offer an idea on your interior. Check out www.gnxdash.com. They've got a drop in package that will give you 8 gauges in the central console. It's a lot easier to monitor the engine and looks cleaner too!

    Hope that helps.

    How'd you do the serpentine?

    You mean like this.....

It is expensive though....what you see in my pic (not including the Ultimate II feedback tach) was a little over $1500! The price depends heavily on your gauge brand and model choice. What you see here is all Autometer UltraLite full-sweep electrical gauges and that drove the price up vs mechanical. I didn't want all the "bulk" that goes with mechanical gauges, especially routing everything thru the firewall. Autometer guarantees that their electrical gauges are absolutely as accurate as the mechanical ones.

The guage setup is real nice and I had thought about putting a setup like this in my car, but I have to get it running right first. I finally got my car fund money back from insurance for my expenses from hurricane Rita, so I should be back in business with the car. I have added a 9" with 4.56 gaers and a set of Convo Pros w/ 28x10.5 slicks and front runners. Cant wait to get the motor back in and give it a test drive.
The serpentine setup is from a GN with the exception of a underdrive crank pulley. I had do some cutting on the tensioner to get the pro billet distributor to fit. It had a Mallory dual point that fit with no mods, but I decided to upgrade. Thanks, Shawn Carlin

Carlin you have the right idea as far as I am concerned also. :TU: With ditching the v-6 for BB. Mine is more race oriented but same idea. Caged, Ladder bar rear, 2"drop spindles, tubular a-arms. etc. 464 stage2 with t400. 652hp with 608 tq.

I know what you mean David, I watched my brother tune his GN with a laptop and his computer spends more time outside the kick panel than in. Not my kind of tuning. I do like watching other peoples V-6 run though. I will be in Noble Oklahoma for the Buick vs. Ford meet 10-29 to see the mustangs get beat up on. Shawn

    Back From Noble

OK I went to Noble and although the Buicks lost by 1, I now have the fever. The engine is going to the machine shop next week and I will get the fever again after Temple so I will hopefully be up and running before the end of the year. I love it when a plan works out. T/A even had all my parts in stock and I should get them this week. Shawn

You made mention that you used the serpentine belt drive set up off the GN Turbo motor.

Can give me some insite on what was done to accomplish this? I still have mine fromy GN motor, just need new belt tensioner.

    Thanks

Hey Chris, the setup on mine is the GN alternator with pulley, GN waterpump pulley, and since I didnt have a stock crank pulley, I have an aftermarket one there. The toughest part was the tensioner pulley, as the distributor wont fit with it in place. The dual point distributor did fit though with no mods. I wanted the pro billet dist., so I had to remove one ear and it now bolts up with only 2 bolts. I will post some pictures as soon as the motor gos back in. If you want to give me a call that is also fine with me. Shawn 281-399-2276

    Motor In Machine Shop

My motor is at G&G and it seems that I was about to spin #7 rod bearing and #4 cam bearing. It was my fault for using a shop not familiar with the BBB. I researched G&G and everyone that has had a BBB done by them had nothing but positive feedback on them. My dealings so far with them has been outstanding. I liked the fact that Chris seemed to know about the clearance and oiling issues and even stocked the T/A bearings. I will post more when I get it back, but I have a good feeling. Shawn
