My dad has passed away last Wednesday the 23rd. He was the original owner of my gsx. As I remember he told us how he walked into the local Buick dealer and said he wanted to order a gsx. The salesmen in the dealership did not know what he was talking about. My dad had seen a gsx at a promotional event in New York City and knew he had to have one. So he brought in a brochure that showed the car and he was able to order one. He traded in his 1969 gs and ordered a yellow non stage automatic. He didn’t want a/c cause he said it ‘robbed’ horsepower. He ordered am/fm radio and a rear defroster and that’s about it. I think he said he paid 4600.00 back in 1970 which of course was a lot of money back then. He said when the car came in around march, all the people in the dealership came out to see it. Over the years that gsx was the family car. We lived in Richmond hill NY at the time and had a garage to keep it in. Then we moved to ozone park NY and the car spent about 3 years in the elements til we moved out to Long Island. From then on the car was always garaged. At the time my dad still worked in Brooklyn and had to commute back and forth in this car. I remember this car having G60 snow tires on it well into the early 80s. We would routinely use this car to take ‘stuff’ to the Brookhaven waste facility commonly known as the ‘dumps’. He would take thick blankets and lay them on the trunk and load up whatever he needed to and tie down the ‘stuff’ with rope that went around the rear spoiler and around the bumper guards. After all this was the family car and not worth the incredible amounts they are worth today. We also went to plant nurseries and loaded bushes and plants and small trees in the trunk and brought them back to the house. Around 1982 my mother started driving the car back and forth to work since she worked closer to home. I remember many people following my mother home asking if the car was for sale. Looking back I guess it seemed crazy to use the car in that way but he used to say it’s just a car lol. He was a great man and life will be forever different without him. Wow, great story, and your lucky that your folks had the foresight to not sell the car off. As long as you own it, you still have a tangible piece of him with you. Been there.. lost my Dad 10 years ago.. I still think about him, but as time passes the urge to pick up the phone and call him to ask a question has faded. It took at least a year to come to grips with the reality that he was actually gone, several more to get used to the idea. Wishing nothing but good things for you and your family going forward. JW

My Dad passed away last August, and if you substitute a 1973 Stage-1 in North Jersey for your '70 GSX, the story is eerily familiar - snow tires, hauling any and everything (kids, little league teams and bags of bats and equipment), towing, it was even used to pull out a tree stump. It was my Mom that actually put the most miles on it. I am sorry to hear about your Dad. No other way to say it - it sux...

It has been 32 years since my Dad passed away. Even though he was technically my step-dad, he was the man that I strive to be, and strive to still have him proud of me. He tried, and tried, to teach me mechanics, simply wasn't interested. I was a nerd and loved books. He never understood, but always supported me. These are the memories that I shall always treasure. These are the things we must hold on to.
Im so sorry Steve. Your one of only 3 people I know thst grew up with a GSX as the family daily driver. My sincere condolences my friend
My deepest condolences Steve, Lost my Dad in 2015, he wasn't really a car guy, but I have fond memories of him helping me with my first Buick, a 1972 Skylark. I let him drive it once, and he remarked afterward, "That's a fast car, be careful" I think about him all the time.
Sorry for your loss... In college in the 70s I lived in a motel in Hampton Bays, LI and woke up one sunny saturday morning to a yellow GSX in the parking space right outside my door. First one I had ever seen. Talked to the man for a while about it. Wonder if it was your Dad?
