I am currently "building" a 85 Regal 355...it already goes down the road decent but its a really mild buildup, Performer intake Stage III shift kit in the TH350 :3gears: and a 3.73 posi out back. However I wanna put on a RPM Air Gap intake, either RPM Heads or the AFR 180CC heads (not sure which one. I have a 2-2400 stall converter for it. Its just the heads (which one to choose) and the cam (same problem) the 2 cams Im looking at are as follows:
    CAM #1 - Comp Xtreme Energy - Jeg's PN 249-CL12-242-2
    Operating Range: 1600-5800 RPM
    Duration Advertised: 268 Intake / 280 Exhaust
    Duration @ .050'' Lift: 224 Intake / 230 Exhaust
    Valve Lift w/1.5 Rockers: .477'' Intake / .480'' Exhaust
    Lobe Separation Angle: 110

    CAM #2 - Comp Xtreme Energy - Jeg's PN 249-CL12-246-3
    Operating Range: 1800-6000 RPM
    Duration Advertised: 274 Intake / 286 Exhaust
    Duration @ .050'' Lift: 230 Intake / 236 Exhaust
    Valve Lift w/1.5 Rockers: .490'' Intake / .490'' Exhaust
    Lobe Separation Angle: 110

Im not sure which one of these would be better, I want as much rumpity-rump as I can get out of a good streetable motor and yet maybe mid-low 13's? I seen in Chevy Hi-Performance they made a similar motor that had 425 HP and 435 lb-ft of torque at 3900 with 370 at 2600. Maybe this would be overkill but I want my 3750 lb beast to move with a sense of urgency when I want it to. Also been looking at the B&M Quick Silver shifter or the Hurst Dual Gate-2 shifter not sure which one to go there, they both look good and are triggerless ratchet shifters, maybe, Im no expert on shifters. Oh and what is it like driving a manual valvebody, the only thing Ive ben told is that it "Its not a manual, DUH, but it drives like an Automatic just you have to select the gears all the time" Mostly wondering if you can go from any gear straight to N or if you have to go in sequence. Oh and which is better Forward or Reverse pattern? Seen on summitracing.com they have a Manual/Auto valvebody for sale, in D its normal but it will shift when you tell it to (3rd gear start). I dunno, I know what I want (a badass BUICK to smoke my Sgt's Camaro hands down or any crappy ricer) and I have an idea what parts will get me there just I need some expert advice :Smarty: . LOL, thanks.

You might want to add another 100ci to it and make it a 455 for starters.

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. Let me know what you want for that stage III intake if you're getting rid of it. Now would the real professionals please step up and help this person.

You are asking guys that are into Buick engines and cars what cam etc you should put in your chevy engine. I duhno. There was a thread recently on another part of the board about how they built a Buick 350 that made over 500HP. If you wanted help doing that we could help you and put you in touch with those that have done it and build them. But sheesh I don't go to a chevy board to ask them how to build a Buick 350 to put in my MCSS. Not to be a dick but go ask somebody who is into what you are wanting to do. Heck they are everywhere arent they. I mean shoot you can probably buy "How to build a hi performance sbc" at the local K-Mart and get all the parts on a blue light special. Aside from that welcome to the board. :)

First of all what is the car going to be used for? If it is an every day driver I would simply suggest buying a crate motor and putting it in. You can get 350 hp for under $3,000. If you are looking at a limited use street car and do'nt care about ecomomy I have run quite a few combo's that I would be happy to share with you. Let me know.

With the money you are talking about throwing at that SBC you can get a stock 455 cheaper and run low 13's, a few mods and you are well in the 12's.
There is nothing wrong with the shifter thats in the car - set your trans up to shift at the rpm's you want, put it in "D" and go. Save that money also and buy your 455. As far as transmissions the 350 or the 400 will satisfy your needs - the 350 will give you a 15 to 18 hp advantage. I personally prefer the 400

Well, I tried the Quick Silver, and I tried a hurst. I currently use the factory Regal shifter in the Wagon since the other sucked and broke, in that order. I filed down and rounded the shifter block to make it a little quicker. Overall I'd stay stock. Note that when you install these, i fyou don't have a center console already the floorpan is stamped with 3 dimples where you need to drill the holes.

Again, just opinion here but I like the regular pattern. You can control any gear with a manual.

As for sheet power factor I'd be looking at the rear end first. Swapout to a 3.73 posi with bags and good shocks and you'll get the tire smoke and camaro killing long before your engine mods. The Regal, particularly the early years were massively overgunned in the gear (2.26 yuck!) and really lost a lot there.

    Hope that helps!

First of all put at least your first name in your signature that way we don't have to make one up for you. LIke chevy boy :Brow: Just kidding we are actually a friendly bunch. :beer

Save your money and buy a 455. Do your shoping and buy a complete running and driving electra or something like that. YOu should be able to find one around 500 or less with some patience. Then you will have a complete driveline including a trans along with all the brackets and pulleys needed. For the street torque will kick butt over hp. YOu need torque to get a heavy car motivatin.

Or ask a chevy board like g-body.com. I couldn't tell you which cam to use in a chevy but I know either would make a good doorstop.
