Thanks hugger I have $100 of break in oil in there. Maybe when I do the first or 2nd change I'll get some ambition to take the pan off. I have so much more to do, I don't feel like taking another step in the opposite direction lol. I already took the intake off, got rid of the block seals and resealed it with the right stuff.
Don't we all, lol. That's what I learned too as a young mechanic. When I was 19 y/o I blew the rear @ the '86 Nationals (drove the car there) late Sat. in my 350 4-sp. On Sunday managed to get a Chevelle rear/hybrid u-joint, etc. Last thing was changing out the u-joint. By then it was pretty late in the afternoon. Used to be a full service gas station in front of the Ramada & fortunately there was a guy in the shop who burned the plastic out for us. Otherwise we might not have gotten on the road and we didn't have $ for another night @ the hotel & gas to get home 700 miles, lol. The rear must've been a 2.56 or 2.73 so no fun w/the 4-sp but we made it. I assume the old rear is still somewhere behind the Ramada in the weeds/brush. I understand mine isn't the only one back there either.
Excellent Kevin! Im in the process of modifying a 350 pan, actually started it last spring on a spare pan I bought off a board member, then everything happened
Here's a pic. It's hard to get an even angle with a cell phone camera but I would say that the pan is below the cross member by about 1". The header tubes are about even with the pan. The pan was dropped about 2" from stock.
I bet I know what that is must be that Q up top see what happens right Mart? Can't wait to see this burn some rubber! Can we spray the crank out of it...oh come on it can handle it
Awww come on guys, the Q-Jet is an awesome carb. It just doesnt seem to work well with the SP3 when slammed wide open
Maybe it will, maybe it wont. Either way I'm giving it a shot. I've learned everything else the hard way, why stop now? Mart, hang on to that Holley for me just in case!
I would very much appreciate his advice, along with anyone else who has tips and tricks to get it to work.
I only have street tires on it, and I could bake those off with the old motor with half the bearings in the oil pan! Besides, it's no longer a car. Its a fire truck...
