MSD Pro Billet distributor questions

I've had this MSD Pro Billet distributor for several years and never used it. So, I decided to install it in my stroker 475 and find something strange about the cap that came with it. In order to get the cap to lock into the slot in the housing, the adjustment window is facing backward. Even though the inside is magnetic pickup conversion, I still want to have the window in the forward position to retain that stock look. Has anyone seen this before and do they make a cap with the tab located in reverse to stock?

Hey Ray, I thought I had a Pro Billet out in the shop. Turns out it's for my BBC, but the cap is red and has no points adjustment window.
I also found a MSD Pro Billet for a SBB, same thing, red cap no adjustment window.
Sounds like maybe somebody took your red cap??
    Hope this helps!

Actually, my cap is red and was painted black outside to look stock. The window is a black plastic piece with “MSD” embossed on it. So the mystery remains…….why would they put it in the back? Think I’ll call them Monday.

The cap may be for the Chevy engine so that the point adjustment window faces correctly for the Chevy engine, but when used on a Buick engine, it faces the wrong way. Compare it to a stock cap and see if you can see a difference.

    Ray,
If I recall correctly that's how the stock cap fits on the MSD 8552 distributor.. which is the only MSD billet that has vacuum advance.

Compare the location of the notch in the distributor cap mounting flange in that distributor, with the location in your current stock distrib. You will see the difference.

shown below is that distrib with the cap that it is designed to have.. won't work for you, uses HEI style ends at the distrib for the plug wires.

Can't say a I recall trying to run one of those with the factory points type cap.. but I probably have done it. The only I think you could do to make it "look right" would be to notch the base to match your current distrib.. Not sure if that is even possible, pay attention to the hold down latch locations on the base.

Larry, I've been kinda following Dave's website, as I want to have him do an MSD conversation for me. Here is what the current status is:

"PLEASE NOTE: THE CONVERSION SHOP IS STILL TEMPORARILY CLOSED DOWN. I VISITED THE ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEON YESTERDAY, JULY 26, AND WE HAVE A LEFT HIP REPLACEMENT SURGERY NOW SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 27, 3 FULL MONTHS FROM NOW, WITH 8 WEEKS OF REHAB AFTER THAT. LOOKS LIKE CLOSED UNTIL FIRST OF 2023, NOW IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A CONVERSION FROM ME, AND NEED TECH HELP, INFORMATION, OTHER INFO ON IT, PLEASE USE THE TWO MODES ABOVE, TELEPHONE, EMAIL TO CONTACT ME DIRECTLY, I WILL SUPPORT YOUR CONVERSION."

I'd love to have another one of his conversions having already bought two of them. I just spoke with him and learned of his upcoming hip surgery in October. He says he'll be ready to take orders the earliest in December.

He also asked to be remembered to you, Larry.
