13-14 ish with a car behind maybeye better depending on tralier maybeye worse i heard of 5th wheels getting 10-11 but that a big tralier

    unloaded it will get 18-20mpg

and will pull up hills as fast as you want it too pretty much

get an 04.5-06 up with lly or an 06-07 classic lbz or new 07.5 lmm

the lb7 made in 01-04 has alot of injector problems

My brother has an 03 crew cab dually with a Bully Dog Triple Dog down loader with an Outlook monitor. In extreme mode he can get 23 mpg on the interstate doing 80 mph. Weve seen 19 mpg pulling a car on the open trailer running 65mph.

Watch out for the 04 1/2 to 06. They have overheat problems

    Re: mpg

I have a 2005 Chevy 2500HD crew cab, long bed, 4x4 with the duramax and allison trans. I get about 19 mpg overall with about 60-70% of my driving being on the highway. I went out west last summer. Trip was 4700 miles and I averaged about 12 mpg. And that was towing my 31' camper and doing about 75-80 mph a lot being as I could out west.

If you can, I'd recommend trying to get a Chevy/GMC with an LLY engine. They are supposed to be better than the previous engines. They started putting them in 2004.5 trucks. If you go to http://dieselplace.com/forum/, you'll find it to be an excellent site for info on these trucks. The "for sale" is at the top called "Market Place".

I got 8.5 mpg pulling a 48 foot gooseneck enclosed trailer @ 75mph (give or take) with 2 BB GS's and a weekends worth of stuff into a 25-30 mph wind last year. Coming home I was getting 14.5 with the wind. I have an 02 Dmax dually 2wd Around town (and with the way I drive) I get about 15-17 mpg which is better than my 96 Yukon was getting.

13mpg towing a 24-28ft race trailer. 17-19 w/ no weight but me....I have checked my odometer on long trips against mile markers and it is about 3% slow......I have heard of some being 10% fast giving "inflated" mileage claims compaired to others. My truck has 4" exhaust, K&N , and a PPE programmer set on Tow mode.

If you ever do any more towing that just a car and trailer, I would recommend upgrading the hitch on the truck. The GM truck your thinking of purchasing can probably tow 10-11K lbs but in no way is the truck capable. Those hitches are usually rated at 8K. I had a customer come in a month ago to fix his trailer, and after doing so I hooked it up to his truck (a 2003 GMC 3500 extended cab, dually, 4x4) I mentioned that he shouldn't be towing a 10K trailer with a factory 8K hitch. Not more than a week later he comes back in, the hitch is snapped clean in two pieces. Frame is a little bitten up too.:spank:

after owning an 04' crew cab Chevrolet, (loved it), I ordered an 06 GMC Duramax and have for several reasons towed more with this than any other truck-I've been back home to Nebraska and back to lovely PA (p.o.s. Turnpike!) all over ohio, new york, etc. towing an enclosed 24" trailer, 50% of te time with my 68Riv in it, no power adders, aftermarket filters or exhaust, turning 10-ply 285/75/16 bfg's, avg 12.0 mpg, and blasting XM the whole time...I couldn't say more about a GM product...and my wife has no problem driving it at all...It's our "good" car (truck)...if you own a home, and Buicks on top of it, I think you need a truck, highly recommended (oh, I've worked for GM/dealers for 20 years:TU: )-Corey
