Interesting. She was probably what? in her 20's in that pic? Lets say 25. That ad is from 1970? So that would make her around 67 give or take. So Im thinking she probably couldnt pull off that outfit anymore. Nor would anyone want her to either today:laugh:

Well, just because someone is asking 1900 for a set, doesnt make them worth 1900. I have this funny feeling that these wheels will get repro'ed in the next few years like the Hurst wheels.

Well, if the saying "It's only worth what someone is willing to pay" is true. Then a set of 4" fronts that are restored (wrong) are worth 1,900.00. I talked to the guy that bought them and that is what he paid. :pp

The guy who bought your wheels cries a lot.

I ended up buying the wheels from him at a premium (Didnt get any extra lug nuts from him though) and restored them myself. They came out very nice. I think the fact the wheels came out so nice pissed him off too.

I restored the centers myself, and had McWheels re-hoop them 15 X 6 front and 15 X 8 for the rear. Lucky for me the centercaps were in good shape and I used the pointed lug nuts from Rocket. They look real cool on my diplomat blue 70.

I found a set, and I am having McWheels put new chrome rims on. I have seen those pointed lugnuts and was going to order a set as well.

Patten, I had a couple conversations with the fellow you knew who has a set, we just couldnt get togeather on a price, and he wanted to sell off the whole batch, and really all I need is four wheels.
    Thank you for the lead

Sorry you guys couldn't work anything out Mark. I think what happens a lot of times with wheels like these is if they are "too nice" (meaning have a nice chrome rim) then they are priced as wheels that are, well...nice wheels...and ready to go. Can't argue with that.

The divergence comes when most, if not all of the buyers, really want a wider rim thus the condition of the typical 6" original chrome rims doesn't come into play. In essence, many buyers are really only buying THE WHEEL CENTERS when they look at these things, as I mentioned in an earlier posting. Said another way most are really just looking for cores. At the end of the day they want new looking chrome as well as a 7 or 8" width.

I guess you could say there's a "misalignment" b/n many buyers and sellers of this particular style wheel.

If these things were more common in a 7" or 8" width then the market would be much more robust.

On the lugnuts....Jim.... I looked at Rocket's site and see the "bullet" style lugnuts. Those must be the type you were referring to??

Correct. They dont have the shank like the originals, but I spoke to several wheel experts and was told that the shanks werent needed. I gave it a try and they have done fine. I have checked the tightness quite a few times to make sure they arent backing off. I'm running them behind a 600 horse Stage 2.

$150 for three caps or three wheels/caps????

Three wheels and two caps......probably Ford bolt pattern.

I am looking for ONE nice center cap......not flatted but it does not have to be perfect.
I am going to make a billet plate to match the shape of the bottom of it with a stepped center section
that will fit the center of my Spyder and spare tire for the trunk. Drill and thread a hole in the middle of the
plate and thread it so it fits on the J-hook and i will have a cool spare tire hold down for the Spyder in the trunk.

    Anybody got one?

    Peace WildBill
