I HAVE A 72 BUICK SKYLARK W/ A 350 2V ? I'M GOING TO PUT A 600 CFM EDELBROCK!! I HEARD THAT THE 72 350 HAS LESS POWER THAN THE OLDER MODELS BECAUSE OF OF GAS PRICES. ON THE STICKER UNDER THE HOOD, IT SAYS BB 350??? DON'T KNOW THE BIG DIFF!! WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS IF I SET THE ENGINE SPECS TO A 1970 350 ENGINE W/ 10.25:1 RATIO WILL IT GIVE THE SAME POWER MORE OR LESS. OR SHOULD I JUST FIND A 1970 GS 350 AND REBUILT IT ? THANKS!!!!!! 18
SO IF I JUST GET A BIGGER COMP RATIO, BETTER CAM, HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK I CAN GET? WHAT ELSE SHOULD I GET?
There's a lot you can do with 8:1 compression, check out the post titled "will this get me into the 13's?" here on small block tech. Lots of usefull info there. A better cam, intake, and dual exhaust will make your 72 run as good or better than a stock 70 GS 350. Lot of money tho... Make sure you know what your getting into before you start tearing apart a perfectly good running motor. If I was going to look for a motor to rebuild, I'd try and find a 76-77-78 buick 350. Cap-screw rods, harder valve seats, slightly better block, HEI distributor, 800 Q-jet... All the parts are there to build up a killer street motor The stock replacement 10.25:1 pistons will give you closer to 9.5:1 with the later heads and composite head gaskets, which is actually where you want to be for a street motor. Add a T/A Performance 212 or 310 cam, intake, and headers, and you've got a street screamer. We're here to help. Let us know what you want to do with your 72 'lark, and we will do our best to guide you.
If would like to learn a little about building Buick performance engines, you can start by purchasing Steven L. Dove's "Guide to Buick Performance Engines 64-87", available @ Yearone.com (part #MB26) and many other Buick vendors. BTW, PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR CAPS LOCK. Mike T
Hey there Mike... Glad to see you here:grin: Your input on the small block forum would be most appreciated!
