What? No longer doing the power generation thingy?? Jodie and I drove past some of your handywork this evening on our way to Findlay. They're still going round and round....

I wish I would have tried something other than the BMR springs from Summit. I bought what were supposed to be 2" lowering springs for the rear of my 53 and it dropped about 4.5" I don't mind the look but my tail pipes scrape going out the driveway!

Put a spring spacer in it. Lift it 1/2”. No more tho.
    Looks great as is.
Or put air bags in coil springs.

Absolutely they can. I had a set made for a car that were +1” ride height from stock.

Napa number is 277 3197. Sorry but it is obsolete. I realize I'm late to the game on this.

I will probably end up ordering a set of springs from Eaton, the only question is do I want +1 or +2". I have Kevin (Storm1) measuring his car for me. This is +2, it might be too much for me.

I can say that on the car that has +1” ride height, the Mickey Thompson headers have touched a speed bump or two when the car was full of people (Woodward Dream Cruise). You don’t notice the increase next to my car.

Not anymore. While the money was good, being away from my family was starting to get to me. So about a month ago a local Napa store opened near the house.

Larry, checked on Napa today and nothing in stocks, or even the area warehouses around Des Moines. Nothing really cross references either.

Thanks Ryan, I have had several guys check for me, no luck on that spring. Eaton seems to be the only game in town. I can order +1, +1.5, or +2" over stock. Still waiting for a few guys to measure for me, and I will make a decision.

Larry, here's the page from the 1986 Moog catalog. There are likely other springs which will work for you. Ignore the markings and notes, those were for my Regal spring search.
Have you called ESPO? Several of us have bought from them, always great service.

Larry, who’s 57 Ford is in the picture? Cool car! Like Walt, I’ve had great experiences with springs from Laura at ESPO.

Walt, the 5399 would have been the spring, but it is obsolete, and there are none to be found. I could go with another spring, but it would be softer, not what I want. I did e mail Laura at Espo, this was her response,

    Hi Larry,

We don't carry most of the constant rate springs so we don't have the 5399. I'm not sure what spring will lift your car 1 1/2" higher. A CC651 may but I can't be sure. They re $105 for the pair plus shipping.

    I also e mailed Eaton,

    Larry,

Thank you for your inquiry. Our part number MC1245+2 will do the job.

They are $245.00 for the pair plus $35.00 for shipping.

    Thank You

So I decided to shim up the stock spring. Pretty sure I nailed it,

    IMG_2049.jpg
Best of all, I got the car up enough where I could stick my hand in between the body and tire, before I could just barely get my fingers in there to the first knuckle.

It doesn't rub on bumps anymore. When I get the new wheels with more back space, I'll have even more room.

I think I'm good for now.

Sean I cut about 3/4s of a coil from the springs I pulled out. It sits about right and handles good, problem solved. The BMRs are on there way back to Summit!
