Manual Transmission Consolette

I posted in another post on this have not a clear answer. Buick offered a consolette for the floor shift Skylarks from the 60s thru the 70s and in cases where there was a dash tachometer ( like mine) the consolette would have a plastic insert some call a cup
This plastic insert displays the Buick Tri Shield. I've seen two different ones, one that was all silver and around the Tri Shield and another one that was silver around the out side ring and black around the Tri Shield. Does anyone know what year s or what one was used in what years? I know the Buick sport wheel center caps had a all black back ground around the Tri Shield for years and for my 72 GS it was a silver background on my center caps.

    Al,

The tri shield emblem came on the 1968-1972 cars and all I've ever seen in my 35 plus years of dealing with Buicks is pictured below.

I bought one like Brett's because the black back ground brings out the colors in the Tri Shield Emblem.

How is the plastic part held in? Can this changed out safely with out breaking anything?

I would typically agree but two different medallions is odd.

I have had several of the blacked out ones. My clouded recollection was that they came in the early 65 auto console. The 65 was introduce mid year. Both the 65-67 auto consoles used the same housing and tach as the 65-72 consolette.

I hit it with a bright light and you can clearly see the circular ribs below the surface. I can’t find a paint line outside the medallion. Also as the black overlaps the top flange there is no detectable paint line, almost feels like it was cast into the plastic. Again I don’t have an opinion or experience as many here, just offering some info.
