    Go Buick Go Woot!

I'm planning on swapping in a 5 or 6 speed, but all the info that used to be so readily available is now gone thanks to those hackin' bastards...
So where can I get basically a complete kit type thing for the clutch pedal and all the linkages and what not. I'm either going to go with a tko-600 or a t56 (6 gears, why not?), and I don't think swapping that in will be too big of an issue. I just don't know where to get the other stuff to make it work (ie everything else aside from a bellhousing.) Any help is really appreciated. :beer

See the very latest Car Craft magazine for an article on just this very setup.

Don't let the article in Car Craft fool you. I just did this exact same swap in my 70 and I had to cut a huge hole in the floor and remake the hump. The trans does shift nice, but I'm having a problem with the trans leaking fluid through the speedo cable adapter. Tremec is saying that the angle of the trans is too steep, so I anm going to try and shim the trans a 1/4 inch and also maybe rear springs and a slightly larger rear tire to raise the rear of the car so it takes some angle out of the equation.

Was that because the car was originally an automatic car? I have heard the stick car humps were larger than auto car humps.

The car was originally an auto, but I think that is all speculation. From all the original 4 speed cars I've seen the hump itself is the saem. Even still... the tremec is huge compared to a muncie. Nice transmission though! Just huge.

    Needing info.

I assume that you have an 87GN and if so is it auto or stick? As I have an 81 Regal and am wanting to switch from auto to stick and have no idea what to get the pedals out of. Any info would be greatly appreciated. :puzzled:

when i bought my 81 cutlass supreme brougham, i checked the dealer options book for a 4 spd . a note in the catalogue stated that standard tranny was discontinued for 1981 . u had to order the optional 3spd auto . mine came with the 350th . that is what i remember .
i would think that the pedals , etc. , from a 78,79,80 would work if u could find such a vehicle .

GN is an auto, sorry. Don't know where to get pedals. Maybe a G-body stick car??

1984 monte carlo ss ( 1st year for the ss , i think ) was available with a 4spd manual tranny . very few were sold , so gm dropped that option .

78-80 G bodys came with sticks. El Caminos came with sticks from 78 till like 83(?). All all scarce, but the El Camino seems to be the easier one to find. Good Luck!

If you are trying to swap a manual into a regal(G-body), you have to ask yourself one question; Do I want a manual linkage or hydraulic? If you go manual linkage, get the pedals and all the hardware (Z-bar, etc.)from an earlier(80, etc.) el camino(A-body). If you want hydraulic, go with F-body pedals(84-92) and linkages. Check out this website for more info: http://garage-scene.home.att.net/t5_install.htm. Good luck. The swap is more than worth it!

i think going hydraulic makes the conversion much easier. I'm thinking about putting a 5-speed behind my 350, which was originally an auto. but what about those bellhousings? the only ones i can find are extremely expensive and transmission-specific. there are simpe adaptors to bolt chevy automatics to BOP, why wont these bolt up a chevy manual transmission?
