Please help me before I kill myself. Over the past few days I've been losing my power brakes, pedal gets real hard. Its an on and off thing, one minute they are fine then the next real hard. I don't believe its the booster since its fairly new. I notice when the rpm's are up and throttle closed then I get lots of vacuum, usually but when when I push in clutch coming to a stop and engine drops to idle as a results the pedal sometimes gets real real hard. The engine is a 455 with moderate cam, you can hear it when motor is cold but smooths out once warm and lifters are crane high intensity or rhoads so it should be making better vacuum. Engine also has roller rockers. Previously the brakes where always real responsive and the car stopped on a dime. I also notice performance overall seem to have diminished some and when starting I need to pump gas pedal and crank it a bit. Do I have some internal vacuum leak, bad timing, out of adjustment rockers or what? Please help as I'm getting scared to drive the car.

    sounds like

Sounds like the check valve may be messed up....it's the 90 degree fitting that the 3/8 hose attaches to on the booster. If so I think you can get them from the "HELP" section of your local auto parts store.

    regards

Went to swap the check valve off another booster this morning and discovered the hose from manifold to booster was kinked. Unkinked it and brakes seem fine now. Thanks for the tip Ken.
