Doesn't look too far off to me. Maybe a shade or two but not as dark as Burnished Saddle or Harvest Gold at least according to these from the '70 PPG catalog but who knows how accurate they are. That's not the same car that was sold near you? The Harvest Gold one one at Streetside that I linked to looks more like Desert or even Coronet Gold than the one that has the Desert Gold code. I figured it was until seeing the pic of the trim tag. If it was between these two I guess it would depend if you wanted one that was orig. Desert Gold or one that was painted closer to it.
Pontiac called Desert Gold, Palamino Copper on a 1970 GTO. Good name for this color as it is a copper Gold color.
No, avatar pic is of my 1970 GS Stage 1 convertible paint code 55 Cornet Gold, which is the bright wristwatch Gold offered by Buick in 1970. Harvest Gold paint code 58 or Granada Gold on a 1970 Pontiac GTO is a dark Tawny Gold and finally Desert Gold is a copper colored Gold as discussed.
I was checking out the Street Side Classic car today on Ebay and confused by the shade of gold. The trim code on the Fisher plate is #58 which is Harvest Gold but the color on the car looks like a much lighter shade. Was the car repainted Desert Gold? Maybe the lights in their showroom are so bright it`s bringing "up" the shade? I dont know the `70 cars well and am doing my homework because when the time comes I`d like to find a gold car and understand the difference in the 3 gold shades. Tom
Tom, I saw that car and was thinking all the same thoughts as you and it could have been a contender but a board member looked at that car for me and was not impressed with what he saw. My plan was to stop on my way to BG but after what he told me I don't plan to exit the interstate to see it.
Well I have an update on this page. While not a Desert Gold car I was fortunate enough to find a 70 Cornet Gold Stage car, born in Oct 69 with THE engine, trans, carb, dist, tan top, tan inside, ps, pdb, F41, tac, gauges, buckets, console, rally steering wheel, ac and a 4speed with Sloan docs. The car should be here next weekend and I can't wait. I haven't seen the car in person but feel pretty good about the condition described to me and it has documented history from 1978 till now. It is going to be a long week.
Looking forward to pictures. I’ve never seen one in that color combination. You have to be pumped. Congrats on the find.
I don't have any glamor shots but will get some when it gets here. You can Google cornet gold gs buick and see the color.
Haha, I've said that a time or two myself. The buying process with this car was a long one and I've never seen the car so I am a little anxious to say the least. I feel like I know it but until I lay hands on it, well you know.....
The trucker called and was held up in Florida trying to drop another car, so my delivery was delayed until tomorrow morning. He said " I am patient with people. NOT ME BRING ME MY CAR!!!!!! Just kidding, I'll be just as excited in the morning as I was this morning........... And this won't be a flipper, hopefully it's the car I have been waiting on for many years. Stay tunned.
