I have a 67 Buick skylark that i have just recently fixed up and had painted. Now i'm working on the motor part of it. It has a Buick 300 v8 in it and i was wondering if there was a way to get headers for it? Also I want to find a mild cam to put in it, If anyone could direct me to a good cam/lifter package i would be greatful. I need to get an electronic distributor and so far the cheapest i have found is $119. Another thing someone might be able to help me found is i need a different transmission, right now it has a 300 super turbine 2 speed power glide, Very slow off the line with the 300. I'm still in high school so this is a low budget project. If anyone can help me or get me pointed in the right direction i would be very much appreciative.

have a new KB cam but you are not gonna want that for a mild build . start out at www.taperformance.com , keep checking here @ V8BUICK in "parts for sale" and maybe start a thread down in "parts wanted" . can also try www.buickperformancegroup.com .
be sure and add a general location to your info so people that may be close to you can contact ya easy in case they have some parts or info for ya .
a TH350 trans should bolt up i think - maybe a mount or driveshaft mod needed . that would be a big dif and cheaper than an overdrive trans ( which would be optimum ) . use caution when going for "cheap" parts - sometimes ya just gotta do it but sometimes cheap ain't always cheaper . also be aware of generic chevy listings and pricing .
    ask away !

Welcome to v8Buick!As long as you have some patience, you will find the parts you seek.
IMHO start with replacing the ST300 with a TH350, it is a direct bolt in swap,
All you have to figure out is the kick down linkage hook up.
That will make the engine happier, I did the 350 into my 340 engine car and it
Was the best thing I've done since rebuilding the 340.

Do you have a 4barrel already?

    > factory cast 4bbl intake ($) and carb or a mod'd 2bbl and intake port mods maybe
    > good tune up and/or and electronic conversion for stock distributor
    > dual exhaust
    > suspension , brake , steering - check and replace with quality parts if needed
that'll give ya a nice solid safe ride . then as money allows :
    > camshaft/lifter upgrade
    > headers
    > rear axle replace or mods
    > trans upgrade
    > further suspension and brake mods
    > wheels n tires ( careful on the sizing )
take your time , do your homework . and right upstairs is a 300 sticky thread .

Crower has a nice selection of cams for the 300/340.
The points distributor is fine, it just needs a little maintenance every 10,000 miles or so..... You can add an advance curve kit to improve low-rpm performance for about $5. A Crane XRi electronic conversion is decent for $65, or find an old Buick 350 HEI distributor at a local junkyard for a few bucks!

There are some low-buck ways to make the car more enjoyable to drive.... bigger swaybar(s), a fast-ratio power steering box, and disk brakes can be swapped from junkyard cars.

I would start by finding a 4 barrel intake, and doing dual 2.5" exhaust. Another thing I would do is convert to a HEI distributor but be sure to make sure it gets a full 12 volts.

Read and follow Larry's power timing thread, more bang for the buck than anything else you can do. Electronic ignition won't add any horsepower on a nearly stock engine so use the money on a 4 bll intake. IMHO I can't see that there would be any performance gained by adding a 600 cfm 4bll and adaptor to a 2bll manifold, it still wouldn't flow much more than the 2 bll.

I wouldn't be to sure about an HEI not adding power, when I went from the points dis to HEI in my 65 Impala when the 283 was still in there,my QM times went from mid 18 seconds to high 17s. So burning more fuel in the cylinders will add performance, and mpg went from 16 to 18.:TU:

You don't have to buy a all new distributor, you can buy a points conversion unit instead to get HEI,for less than a dis. I have heard good things about the Crane unit.

I've done the Crane conversion on 3 different 300/340 motors.Better mileage & starting but never had any performance gain over that alone.Power timing will make a big difference.
If your considering headers i'd suggest getting your manifolds port matched instead,be about the same price but look much cleaner.
Bolting a 4bbl to a low compression 2bbl motor wont do much either.Have Scott Brown grind a cam if your going to change that out. BUICK+340+EXMAN+007[1] (2).JPG BUICK+340+EXMAN+012[1] (2).JPG
