Lifter tick 430?

To me this sounds like a lifter tick, is it?

    https://youtube.com/shorts/B9pUQqtatBI?feature=shares

It's not very loud, but it's there. This is after driving home for 25 minutes, partly highway.
I noticed it this morning for the first time after driving to work. When returning home with a cold engine the sound was not there.
I have 70 psi oil pressure on cold startup; and 16 psi hot idle in drive after highway. Driving 30mph gives ~50 psi hot; 50mph 58 psi with 10w30.
It's a stock 430 after a fresh rebuild only few hundred miles on it.

When I remove the breather and put a hose there to listen to it, it looks like it's coming from there.

Should I remove the valve cover and see what's going on with the engine running? Or is the oil spraying all over the place then?

Sounds like it could be a single port exhaust leak. Take a piece of pipe or tube (don't touch the manifolds if it's meltable), and listen around the exhaust manifold/headers where they meet the head.

    Doesn't sound bad to me.

That doesn't sound like anything to me. Can you hear it from behind the wheel with the hood closed? Probably not.

If it's an exhaust leak, it should be present with a cold engine as well, right? This sound isn't.

Yes I could. This morning coming off the highway waiting for the traffic light I noticed it.

I'm not particularly worried, but still.

Very few engines, especially rebuilt ones with aftermarket cams are completely silent. If I open the hood while my engine is running, and stick my head down near the valve covers, I can hear the valves. When I pull into my garage, I put it into Park and give it a quick rev, it's very quiet except for the Mickey Thompson headers of course.

I think some guys just expect no valve noise whatsoever. That's just not real world IMHO. Some cams are just noisier than others. Some light ticking is no big deal as far as I am concerned. If it's rapping away, that's something else.

If you want to take the valve covers off, and unbolt the rockers, check all the push rod ends, rocker arms, and rocker tightness on the shafts, do it just to satisfy your concerns.

I don't hear anything that would concern me on that video.

Sounds like a lifter, not that bad tho.
What are the details of your build?
    Cam/lifter mfr?

    All stock specs.

Eaton lifters and Wolverine cam, but they're both from 2004. I only put some 8k miles on it since 2004, so I reused them.

I only noticed the noise yesterday, but perhaps it was earlier on present as well, I don't know. I've been eliminating other noises (squeaks etc) with success, so this one stands out more now.

Engine runs very smooth. So you have all reassured me. I might do what Larry suggested, to check and re tighten.

Larry's right: that's nothing to be overly concerned about.

None of these engines are quiet like a newer car. My brand new build has a tad bit of noise as well.

As long as my oil pressure stays where it is and I'm not breaking rocker shafts, that's how it'll stay.

I've learned to live with it.

A working radio might be a good solution.

Sound like a lifter to me. A stock engine should not make that noise. Might be a tiny piece of debris stuck in a lifter.

I agree. Something is not right.

Possibly a very very slightly bent push rod? Had a similar noise on number 4 on my motor for a long time. Didnt find the pushrod until after i pulled motor out of the car for restoration and decided check it out (motor wasnt going back in). I let the noise go, primarily because Motor always ran good, with good oil pressure, and it was my daily driver at the time

    $100 says you got a sloppy rocker somewhere,....as to it's cause,....there's a few scenarios

    Hum. Okay o_O
This is interesting. I'm not too worried, but I think I agree with BUICKRAT. On the other hand, since Larry is stating it's normal for rebuilt engines to have some noise...

I'll take the valve cover off for inspection and see what's going on. With a running engine I can check the push rods for spinning.

And @hugger , what do you mean with a sloppy rocker? Radial clearance?

With the valve covers off and the engine idling, press your fingers onto the valve end of the rockers (one at a time) and listen. When you find the one that makes the ticking noise stop, you have found the culprit. My guess is a lifter. As long as it's not too loud and you don't mind it beating the lobe off the cam, run it.
