After going through a ton of threads on "lifter bore braces" and reading them, I see there is still a large debate on which works better, plates and epoxy or TA's lifter bore girdle? Here is my assessment. The plates and epoxy one is bad because of possible epoxy breakin off and floating around, but other wise its better because it helps on oil control. The TA lifter bore girdle applies pressure on lifter bore "not really what I call good." but it won't break epoxy pieces off but still has oil control problem. I have never seen one post saying they used wire mesh to secure the epoxy from breaking loose? In Moroso's lifter valley kit for Chevy's they use either fiber glass mesh or kevlar mesh to hold the epoxy from breaking in piece's. When I seen negative post on bolt together plates for lifter bore bracing, I laughed. Why you ask, look at Butler performance, they have successfully used them for years now. Dave M. and I have pm'ed each other over certain oiling mods. I have to say Dave knows more on that subject then most in here and I'm glad I wrote him. Buick has changed my outlook in engine theory big time, the blocks are worthless until we bandaid the crap out of them and then there is no guarantee. TA did good making a aluminum block, but I would like to see a cast iron four bolt splayed block too. If other company's can make them cheaper then an all out aluminum race block, I know someone can make one. From J.W. to the well seasoned engine tuner, I have learned what works and what I wont use. Yes, my engine build will be coming shortly with pictures and explanations why I went that direction. I'm still hoping for 750+ hp out of ported cast iron heads. The displacement, I haven't decided yet. J.W.'s 470 stroker is looking mighty fine right now, I will be going aftermarket billet crank and a longer connecting rod. I have studied the 470 for a while and I like it. Don't get me wrong now though, the 523 is still looking mighty fine too.
