i saw a 70 olds 442 w-30/4spd vert with the same harvest gold over pearl int at mccan a few years ago and that color was a thing of beauty! the sharpest most classy looking vert i have ever seen. that harvest gold color is perfection on a body verts. the pic above does not do harvest gold justice.

There’s quite a bit going on with this car. I’ll leave it at that.

Please, don't keep us in the dark. What exactly is "going on" with this car? Is it the car's history that you are privy to? Is it the fact that it is is NOM? That the bucket seat/full console interior shown as 189 Burnished Saddle changed to 185 Pearl White for a 44667 GS 455 Convertible? Is the Sloan letter fake? Lack of wood grain paper on the dash?

    Thanks!

Interior change, poorly by the way.
    Woodgrain missing.
Wrong hood, shouldn’t have the Buick emblem.
    Radiator swap.
Listed as having 39000 miles. That’s low for what has been done to the car. Tells me there were serious issues with the car or someone is lying about the mileage.
I’m certain an up close inspection would uncover more issues.

On the point of the woodgrain missing...I've seen some cars like this one with the black paneling and of course, others with the woodgrain paneling. My question is, on the GS, is only woodgrain paneling correct? Or can black paneling be correct too? If both options were available, is there a way to identify what the car is suppose to have?

I think it might depend on what interior option the car had in 1970. Standard Chevelle interior or deluxe interior.

The white 4 speed car that brought so much money had a black dash?

I’m talking about what trim level would have wood grain or not

Clearly they change the color of the interior in this car. Bring your magnet with you there’s a lot of metal work in the quarter panels

My understanding (for '70) is that all GS 455 were supposed to get woodgrain no matter the trim level (along I assume w/certain Skylark models/trim) and all GS 350 were supposed to get black regardless of trim level. Assuming that's correct, surely mistakes were made as the cars were assembled.

Probably a NOS hood from an early accident or... That interior... Orig. Dark Saddle buckets. Now a potpourri (w/wrong front seat material).

Isn't that always the issue on these cars? What's lurking under the paint, how much rust do/did they have, and what was the quality of the repairs. I've said many times, orig./unmolested sheetmetal should command a (significant) price premium but even on the rare "rust-free" orig. sheetmetal car there's bound to be rust in the seams & hidden places that may never rear it's ugly head or could pop anytime.

Someone posted a picture of the $209k white Stage 1 getting reproduction floors installed at Thorntons. I'm sure they do nice work but... That (along w/the fact I can't afford to pay someone) is why I like doing my own sheetmetal work. Had someone mess it up the 1st time I ever had anything done 30+ years & figured I don't need to pay someone to screw stuff up. I can do that myself for free! I'd rather know exactly what was done, how it was done, & what was used. Between that & bodyshop jail...

Edit: Google must be watching closely: I went on YT shortly after writing this and this was the 1st vid in 'shorts." I've done similar but do most shops? I think the best way & hoping I can afford to next time is to dip the body onece the sheetmetal work is done (but of course before doing any finishing) and then e-coat (also dipped). It may be overkill too.

Overall, a nice looking car IMHO, just w/a lot of issues if someone was concerned w/such things.

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

1 out of 2 ain't bad. It's a bummer that the person drilling the holes in the replacement fender for the driver side didn't measure the spacing on the fender on the passenger side. Still a great looking car overall.

Regarding dash woodgrain, the big block cars came standard with woodgrain on the dash even with the standard interior. The GS350 did not. The 1970 Buick dealer promo film that I recently uploaded to YouTube even mentioned this point when discussing the interiors. I didn't think the big block cars with standard interior got the woodgrain but I looked through my photo collection of unrestored cars and every car I found with the standard interior had the woodgrain in place. Here is one example.

At one time I didn't think the std. interior 455 cars got it either & the deluxe 350 cars did but after talking w/several owners of seemingly original cars, I think like the trunk trim is was just a standard GS 455 item. Interesting that Buick decided to add those 2 cosmetic items to the GS 455 only.

In '71-2 I believe that all changed wrt the dash woodgrain.

I don't have pictures to prove it but the VERY EXPENSIVE white car "a Thorton restoration " had no wood grain on the dash.

In 1970, the base/standard/ no cost, straight taxi cab bench seat interiors (Blue code 121 Sandalwood 124 and black 128 )Buick Skylark or GS 350 and GS 455 /GS Stage 1 interiors had no woodgrain on dash.

The Thorton restored white 1970 GS Stage 1 4 speed car is correct because it was built with standard no cost straight bench 128 code interior therefore no woodgrain on gauge cluster housing.

So that car originally didn’t come with bucket seats and consolette on the floor . They added the bucket seats and deluxe interior during restoration ?

Thank-you. I noticed the radiator, but pretty much everyone who actually DRIVES their C2 cars has a DeWitts by now. Original C2 factory radiators were aluminum, but repros are seldom that, unfortunately. With A?C, these days, even with the small engine like I have, you just can't rely on the original repro, so DeWitts is the way to go. I NEVER had a radiator issue with any of my 4 GS cars back in the day or even today, so it is unfortunate the owner did not go with a more original one. I did get one new core once, but we took off the original Harrison tanks and used them on the new core. Worked out perfectly and kept the car as it should be.

I don't know of any GS hood that had that Buick emblem. Owner was trying too hard?

Interesting conversation about the wood paper. Obviously, this person was not aware of it or maybe this one slipped through? It certainly was known to happen, but I also replaced the original dash on a car once for one with better chrome. I had to buy a paper wood kit that was pretty good, but the NOS ones were obviously better.

    Cheers!

Strange that Thorton would add the buckets and not make a dash change. I guess they liked it that way.
