If I brake my new engine I will definitely be wanting a new alum. block. I think this is great for the Buick community. I hope the run of blocks goes as well as planned.
Unfortunately an aluminum block is not going to happen. With all the hype of wanting a block, less than 30 people finally bucked up for the iron block. Pretty sad I think, considering how many people were doing the talk about buying one. This does not make it worth it for any vendor as it will be a losing project. It's a ton of work and R&D getting a perfect run together. I too would have preferred an aluminum, but I am definitely not going to sit on the porch hoping and waiting for someone with time, and tons of upfront cash to appear and start making them. The train is about to leave the station, yes it's late, but it will go. And unfortunately for those left on the station it will be too late. I really hope more runs of blocks will be made after this bunch, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Regardless of the delay with the Bulldog block whether you need one or not I would jump on it. Cause after this run of blocks is completed, we may NEVER see any more made. And those prices of the blocks we see now buying new will double once they make it on e-bay.
Ric, I probably would have bought a block if I didn't just buy a set of heads from Bulldog, along with a new engine. If I buy a block and probably will in a couple years, a crankshaft is a must also. I am just getting my feet wet with the 455. I think you will see alot more people wanting blocks when you see them out there running. Jeff
Now that the core boxes and molds are made. I think it would be easier to make another run in the future as alot of the bugs are worked out. I.ve worked in an iron foundry were we make blocks and cranks. I am presently working at an alum. foundry casting heads. Even to do pilot runs of cores for heads takes a couple days to figure out the settings for the core machine and T-gas, purging etc. I can understand the wait. I honestly can't see Bulldog making to much money on this project as most of our molds even for the heads are over $100,00 to make. Then you still need the CNC EDM burned core box also. Then the block must be machined. It is a heck of a lot of work. Thumbs Up to Bulldog for taking on the project. :TU:
I think we should also give a :TU: and a big "Thank You!" to those members of the Buick community who invested the time and $$$$$$$$$$ to make this happen. Without them, Bulldog wouldn't have given a Buick block a second thought. Someday, those folks who organized and financed this project should write a story about what it took to do it. I suspect we'd all gain an even greater appreciation for these blocks (regardless of how long it's taking) if we knew the whole story.
I'm so glad i started this thread it looks like there are a lot of people who wanted to know what the real story was with the blocks . keep the faith fellas .. And ill be waiting for all those old blocks to go on sale so i get get some great deals on racing parts ... :beer :3gears:...mike
I contacted them a while back about that and at the time they weren't interested in making a Buick block. Not sure if that has changed? o No: I can't imagine many people would commit to such a block as they cost twice what the BullDog block cost!
 I'd pay to see JB totin' a couple blocks. One under each arm, runnin' like H#$$...............  . Whoever talkles him first gets one. I have to guess he'd be a tough one to bring down. He's gotta nose for the goaline ya know ??  I crack me up......................
I think if you really want to see some people get angry, it will be if someone gets moved to the top of the list because of who they are or what stage their car is at. That's Bull! I was one of the early ones to put down a deposit and I paid in full the week that the balance was requested. I too have had to rearrange my schedule for this season. I want my block in the order that the deposits were received. I don't give a darn who is on the list. Let's not even go there. Dennis
Right now only one person got moved to the top from the bottom. It's certainly not me or Gary. All I want is my block as you do Dennis I agree they need to be delivered in the order of the deposits this is what was discussed in the beginning. My comment in the post above was not trying to step ahead of anyone just wishfull thinking.
Rod would spend the money. If you look at it he has split two blocks. To replace each block it has cost him about 3k... so were already up to 6k and with out turning back the power (which he is) he has the potential to split another one. It would be money well spent,,, costly,,, but nothing more than he would be spending in the long run. But No,, not very many would be up for spending that kind of money on a block.
