Sounds like you did good then, you were looking for an ice cream cruiser, and you found a car that had been used as an ice cream cruiser by the previous owner. Doesn't get any better than that!

You can keep it "stock" appearing, and still have a 13 second cruiser without harming the value. Although going that fast with the top down will do terrible things to the ice cream, so be careful.

I can post pics for you if you want to email them to me at chris.pollak@loudeye.com.

Not sure were to direct you to read up on the SCO thing.

    Thanks, Chris

    The last owner...

Bought it when his kids were small (9 years ago) and did the very same thing!
He only put 5000 miles on it in 9 years.
We will have some good pics ASAP. I sent some quickies to Tim (feel free to post them!) just for confirmation.

Would need to know more before giving you a solid price idea. There have been several very nice 70 Convertibles sold in the last 6 months in the thirties, and they were frame off's or silver/gold concours cars.

71's have typically priced out several thousand lower, so I would put the car in the high twenties (maybe low thirties) for a fully restored car.

I see you have noted that there is no rust in the car, does this include the core support and inner fenders? Those are typical rust areas, and if rusted, would need repair. Floors and trunk good?

Any bondo in the fenders, doors or quarters? If so, this would need to be stripped out, and who knows what you find. Is the car an IL car its whole life?

If full of bondo and needing the above repairs and paint, figure around $10k, at least out here, for a show quality job. That brings you down to about $20k.

How is the interior and top? If in need of replacmentto be show quality, you could easily spend $4 - $5k there.

Running gear? Rebuilds of Buicks are expensive. Even a major detail, with the right components is expensive.

Suspension work needed or just a detail?

    Chrome work? Grille?

The list goes on and on, hard to tell without pictures.

All in all, if the car needs body work redone, paint, some rust repair, interior redone, and a new top, major engine detail, some chrome work, etc., I would price the car in the low teens in its current state.

    Just my $.02

STAGE III Lost Experimental 455-4 Bolt Main Block.

    All righty then

Going to be allot of undoing to get the car back to it's original state if the future resale value is important to you.

Still an original 455 convertible, but it is going to be expensive to get all the Apollo white paint out of the door jambs, engine compartment side of fenders, trunk lid, repair spoiler and tach holes etc etc.

I don't know for sure if it is true (anyone help here?) but one of my old paint and body friends told me you can always tell a car that had stripes on it(GSX stripes for example) unless you take it down to the metal and prep it carefully :Do No: . Point being it isn't going to be cheap to do correctly for highest value of the car.

Either that or I'd probably just go with the flow and forget about dumping tons into the car to make it correct and just drive it to enjoy.

One day someone who has the desire to undo the custom work will come along and still be able to pay a decent price for the car based on what it is under the custom work.

Until then I think you have made your goal of a cool and fast icecream runner and lower ET's are just a credit card away.

Again for future investment value,I'd just be REAL careful to protect the original drivetrain if it is numbers matching.

All that said, it is still a cool ride and I hope you and the family really enjoy it (that's what it is for anyway! ENJOYING) :TU: :3gears:

    newer to buicks

Would the speedometer still have the transmission gears labeled on it if it was ordered with buckets from the factory? If I'm mistaken, please correct me.

Yes they would for the auto console. The speedo gear indication window appears just like an auto column shift.
