Someones word means a ton to me as well. On top of it all you started selling valuable items to make this purchase and now your out in the cold. Hopefully you find an amazing deal! Good luck!

True, the deal isn't done until the money changes hands. Not sure what your ethics are, but, typically, a decent person will at least call back the first interested party (if they have a concience) and say, "hey, some dude offered me such and such and I really need the money, can you match it?"

Or, according to you, this approach is not necessary as long as someone slaps the green in your hand. Thanks for the heads up. This helps me know who not to deal with.

If I had any advice for Jason I'd say don't trust people as much as you do. But I won't say that because that's a good quality to have. Just be more cautious in the future. Nobody's gonna fault you for looking out for #1 these days.

I'm happy to say that most of the people I've dealt with on this board have always been top notch and fair. More than fair, some even charitable.

The call out was fitting and appropriate.

People need to have integrity, and follow up with their commitments.

I've lost money on the site and have,
a few times, been offered more but stuck to the original guy at the top of the list...Simply speaking, that's the way it should be...A deal is a deal, via handshake, verbal agreement etc...Sorry Jason, sounds like you got ripped.

I just want it to be known that I do back Jim in this. Maybe my previous post didn't convey that properly.

Handshake or first verbal agreement should be good enough.

All you people only know one side of the story...I personally called him to apologise to him..I would never condem a man for not knowing all the facts...and more of those facts are personal and not to be diplayed on here..

You might think this was a blown no-hitter call by some ump.
    Or not.

Oh brother. Ya know, I'm totally on board with that verse, but where "is' the other side of the story?

As I've said I've always had great dealings with people on this board, which is why I am so surprised to hear when these deals go sour. Jim called to apologize, so he wouldn't have apologized if he didn't feel he wronged Jason, correct?

Kudos to you Jim for calling him. :beers2:

I'm certainly not without sin and I don't think I was casting any stones. All I said was that a handshake and a verbal agreement should be enough. I really don't think any of my comments in specific were out of line. :Do No:

My response wasn't to you Ken, it was to the 20 or so others throwing stones.

I know nothing of this deal or the parties involved, but it reminds me of a line from "Clear and Present Danger" when James Earl Jones tells Harrison Ford, "You gave your word. Your word is who you are."

If that bothers people, then, like Warren said, you have no integrity and I don't want anything to do with you. Period.

I always think about that when I think about how Dave Welk lied his a** off to me about the car I bought from him and then had the nerve to blame me for his lies, which is, I guess, how dishonest people justify their actions to themselves.

I guess, like you, I should have had more sense and less trust. Now I do.

    Try this on for size..

If you promised first dibbs on it to a friend in the past, and then forgot that, and then made another deal on it with another friend later on.. and then the first guy reminded you of your promise from years earlier..

Who do you keep your word to?

Do you start a bidding war between two friends?

I'm pretty sure I would honor the first commitment, and then call the second guy and explain and apologize for my forgetfullness.

Which, as I understand it, is exactly what happened here.

If that's the case, it seems to me that the seller could have posted exactly that, instead of posting that the reasons were not for the board to see. It would have been a pretty legitimate rebuttal.

Jason, is that the way it went down?

When I make a deal, the deal is done.. My word is my word.. If there are extreme situations on either end that warrant re-visiting the original deal, that may be different.. A deal is a deal. What if you had something listed on Ebay and it sold for cheap and then someone on Craigslist where you already had it listed offered you more?? Well.. It's already sold... Done..

It's not up to us to determine how the seller should communicate the situation, and he doesn't owe us, a bunch of judgmental plebs, an explanation what happened.

Personally, I don't blame him for keeping his lips sealed. I think the reaction here was reprehensible. . . you guys wax romantic about a man's word, but then forget about the other graces that make the man. :error:
