2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee witb 4.0 6 cylinder. Owners manual calls for Mopar "-090" oil filter. Guys on Jeep forum suggest use Motorcraft FLIA or equivalent for more capacity. Anyone here tried this? Any reason why not?

    Hi John,
I'm just using the oem style Wix 51085. Already needs over 5 qts for an oil change. That's enough capacity for me.
BTW, I bought this '01 XJ in November with a bad engine and rebuilt it into a 4.6 stroker. :bglasses:

I have been using M-090 Mopar filters on my 05 Hemi as well as my 95 ZJ with a 4.0. Can say the Napa Silver/Golds are just as good..And,my ZJ has 278,000 miles on the motor and never been apart...

    Hi Walt,
I bought mine about the same time, my first 4WD. Didn't have any significant snow after I bought it.....but not complaining!

Mine was bought to be my winter driver. Has about 157,000 on it now, and will add 5,000 or less each year, most between December and March. Hoping it's good for another 10 years.

I run oem mopar filters on both my 04 Grand Cherokee and my 06 Wrangler both with 4.0 liters. I get them from my local walmart for cheaper than the dealer sells them. I do use synthetic oil though.
