    Gents,

Got a local guy here selling this rear end. Only number given is the number on the punkin webbing. Says its a posi unit.

I have my stock non posi 8.5 corporate 10 bolt in my 72.

Is this rear end worth purchasing to replace my stock one?

Looks to be a 8.2 instead of the 8.5 but its posi. Not sure if its clutch type or spool.

Let me know ASAP as I am suppose to drive an hour to get this rear end and don't want to waste my time if its not a good buy.

Judging by the rear cover that might be a chevy axle. If so it won't have bolt in axles. If it's a good deal or not would depend on price, gear ratio, and intended use

That yoke is found on the 8.5 rear AND the 7.5 not the 8.2

Look for the square tabs at 5 and 7 o'clock to I'D an 8.5 (looking at the rear cover)

    Gents,

I ended up buying it. It's actually an Oldsmobile rear end. It's a 8.5 rear posi with 3.42 gears. Only thing it needs is a axle bearing and seal.

    Got it for $250.00

You got that from Marty. Very good buy. Yes,it is a 71-72 8.5" 10-bolt,from a Cutlass/442. Same guts as your Buick 8.5",just a different casting.

Don't even need to change the rear pinion yoke on this rear? It looks pretty big....

Everything is exactly the same. Direct swap.
The way he listed it,or what he knew about it is what threw people off. He thought it was a 66 Buick rear. I explained what it was,and why he couldn't find a seal for it. I was going to go down this morning to get it,if it was still there.

Yeah, I was a bit confused because it didn't look like a Buick rear.

Now it makes sense. You were the other guy from Erie. There is play in the axle so my guess is it needs a bearing and s seal on that side.

The play I have is radial play. Are you talking about radial or axial play Larry?

Axial play. Since you didn't specify what type of play until now, I thought it worth mentioning.:)

Do these seals install in a particular way? So the help with bearing preload or anything?

Would the incorrect installation cause both radial and axial play?
