I placed my first order for upholstery with "a well known restoration parts supplier" in January 2018. The seat covers were in stock at that time. Wait time was 6 weeks. That time frame came and went with no word from the supplier. When I called them to ask where my upholstery was, the phone call taker says "You ordered the seat covers for a 1964 and your car on file is a 1965 so we canceled the order." After I got my jaw off the floor and recovered from "stupidity-shock". I asked "didn't anybody stop and think I could be working on more than one car?" Silence on the phone. By this time they were out of stock and would be 6 MONTHS before they got more in. To shorten this up a bit I finally got my covers in October and I started looking for someone to recover my seats. Then 2020 hit and we all know how that worked out. Summer 2021 roles around and we start having carshows again and I get a name for an upholstery guy from a friend. I start saving up the money for the work and give him the remains of the seats. He calls me up a couple days later and says the covers are not fitting. After some careful measuring we find out the covers are 2 inches shorter and 2 inches narrower than the originals. I call the "Well known restoration parts supplier" and after I ate the return shipping, they are sending a replacement set of seat covers... in January 2022. These are made by PUI and I am more than a little worried that the new ones wont be made any better. This "well known restoration parts supplier" also sells the Legendary interiors line of covers. So if these need to be returned I hope I can have the price of these PUI covers applied to the Legendary covers and pay the price difference. We shall see in January.
Wow, wouldn't you think they might give you a call and check to see if that's what you really need? At least let you know about the cancelling your order. Gee, thanks for the awesome customer service. Which middleman supplier are you working with? Legendary is the only choice for me. I never heard a good thing about any other interior manufacturer and I never thought others looked as good Legendary Interior , either. They have their winter sale going on right now, too.
When I bought my 67 skylark it came with new PUI door panels and F&R seats covers in the the box... They fit like a glove absolutely no issue....
I'm thinking if this next set doesn't fit, I will deal directly with Legendary. I hope this next set fits 'cause they wont pay return shipping. And it's $45 I gotta eat that could be going into my ride!
OKAY! Time for an update! I canceled the PUI seat covers and have a really nice credit to use up on little stuff from the "well known restoration parts supplier". I was going to deal directly with Legendary upholstery but have since changed directions for this project. I wanted to get it DONE! The lovely and brilliant Mrs.RubberRodder, asked "how much are the seat covers, padding, and labor going to cost?" After figuring all the math I was right at $1400 bucks. She says she knows how much time, effort, and AGGRAVATION, I have into these damn seats, BUT, how much are new ones? Wouldn't it be faster and easier than trying to save these old ones ? Since the car is no longer stock/original etc. I figure, okay, lets see. Enter Speedway motors to the rescue! A pair of Scat Procar Sportsman 1605 seats with sliders and brackets...$750.02. With FREE shipping. They got here today and go in this weekend. What in there now. what going in this weekend. come hell or high water, one way or another, I WILL have seats by Monday!
UPDATE! UPDATE! The new seats are in and feel great! And they look even better. The remains of the old seats. The "universal" mounting bracket. How to make "universal" brackets work. Hack 'em up and weld 'em back together! And Their in !
