Here is a picture of the parts discussed in this thread.... http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52393
Hi Gary, OOoooooo NICE! If you don't mind my asking, what is Charlie getting for the kit? It's not one-piece right? The plates look to be "standing" using the corner bolts with the valley cover in the middle.o No: Thanks..
99% sure price is set at $240 for the standard or the high port. Yes they are a 3-piece deal..... Here's what I'm leaning towards at this time.
Have you heard what the port volume and flow difference is between the Victor and the SPX? Intake height? Too bad they don't make a Super Victor for the large cube combinations. I'm sure you'll keep us up to date.
I haven't seen the intake pieces,in person. I do know that when Charlie Evans makes a part,it's made right. He is building me an iron headed stage2 engine. I have personally seen his work and talked to others that he has done things for.I am not going to use this adapter on my engine,as WE are using a offy 2x4. Between Charlie and myself(mostly Charlie) we have learned what it takes to make this one work, also. Mike Nussell
Gary K., I was checking out those adapter plate pictures and thought of something. You have a fast car, do you really think spending approx. $500+ or - on theses plates, and a new single plane intake, is going to be worth the performance gains?? There may be more "method to your maddness", (I mean that in the nicest way) but for that same money, you could buy a nitrous kit and have adjustable horsepower gains, instead of what I would think minimal gains from an intake change. Just a 100 hp shot would make you a "believer". In other cases things may be different, but for you, this option will put you in the 8's, an intake, in my opinion will just be time wasted, and a lighter wallet. Gary Giessen
Gary I know what you're saying the plan is to step up to Stage3 or beyond Cylinder heads which would require a manifold change anyway
Several years ago, Charlie Evans purchased a new raw casting intake manifold for a 440 MOPAR and cut it apart. He then spent time and money having it re-welded back together to fit a 455 Buick. The area under the carburetor was re-shaped, runners were modified and test were performed with various head & cam combinations. Charlie recognized the potential of the air-gap design and was pursuing it's advantages. However, within the next year, another group of Buick Racers developed an intake manifold know as the "K-B Wildcat Coolrunner". In my opinion, one of the Best designs ever produced for our Buicks (and I run one on my Apollo). Charlie was unaware that anyone else was working on this concept for our Buicks and has always been grateful that the design was placed into production. To all of his endeavors, I am sure that some may say "... time wasted, and a lighter wallet." Charlie has never finished messing around with his experimental manifold, I'm sure it is gathering dust on a shelf somewhere. He has gone back to reproducing the adaptor plates for those of us who like to experiment and try things a little different than the average racer. We all have our opinions, and I will always be in favor of anyone who dares to be different in the search for performance for our Buicks. Marv.
I've got some of charlie's adaptor plates for my tunnel ram. Once ported to match the stage2 ports and intake port angle they look killer. The toughest part is dealing with the water. Charlie is a first rate buick guy. One note for those who may be thinking about a mopar tunnel ram. It will cost you some serious money, over 2K for adaptors, intake, external thermo housing, sideways mount linkage and custom carbs. Then I added stuff like the In'Jeg'tor scoop and complete polish. Pro street all the way!
Gary, I have only seen it listed as a small holley pattern. That is one of my options also. I want to look at what Indy has also.
Shopping around is the key to everything. I have Evan's plates for Stage three heads a mopar performance 440 tunnel ram(different than what is in my avtar). Twin 950 holley HP, linkage, plates, water return lines and such. I have maybe 1200 bucks into the whole kit including the fact that I now have three different 440 t/r intakes. If all gones well I'll be at BG with the car T/R and fogger plumped and all. If I can't get it togather than I'll post detailed pics. I ran into some issues with my heads thus I had to send my heads back to PAE. I'm getting down to the wire and it all rest on the fact, if I get my heads back in time or not. I don't know if the plates and 440 sigle plain intake would out perform a SP1 or SPX, But for a tunnel ram or even a Edelbrock RPM dual plain may be a step up. Nothing like looking down 6 inches of runner straight at the intake valve or slapping on a crossram.
I am curious how the Mopar boys like the Weiand Team-G intake also. I know that is available in a dominator version.
Nice score Dave. Just don't put that on your engine unless you are making some radical changes to heads and cam. It'll fall right on it's face.
