Guys, when using the metal intake gasket pan, I know to use sealer on the water passages, do you use anything on the intake ports to prevent possible vacuum leak on the valley side of the intake, heads?

    Thanks

Copper coat or spray tack sealer.

Sounds like copper coat is a good choice

I just did the intake manifold and gaskets on my 400. Sprayed a couple even coats of the copper sealer on both sides of the metal intake gasket and let it dry for a day. Worked fantastic, no vacuum or water leaks. Didn't use anything else around the water ports. Just make sure the sealing surfaces are super clean, torque the intake bolts to spec, run the car to operating temp for a while, and check torque of intake bolts again.

Oh... since I was installing an Edelbrock intake, I did what their instructions said and used a 1/4" tall bead of RTV in place of the rubber end gaskets. Just let the RTV (Permatex Super Black is my go to) set up for about an hour before dropping on the intake.

Thanks, we did that exactly. Added a little copper high temp silicone at the exhaust crossover as well. No way this intake will leak.....it’s olds 455, but no difference from doing a BBB.
    Thanks

The instructions for the pan on my 231 said to use sealant on the water ports and the intake/exhaust ports. I elected to make a continuous spread around everything essentially being like running new synthetic gaskets on top of the pan itself. No leaks so far installation was easy.

The next time the intake comes off is not going to be so fun scraping all that off though

Fel Pro used to include a small tube of black RTV for the water ports, and a small tube of some kind of liquid blue stuff AND a brush for around the intake ports, but that was years ago, guess they got cheap:rolleyes:

I bought one recently and it came with the RTV , but no brush-on sealer. I used Coppercoat on both sides, and Ultra Black on the 4 water ports. I used Right Stuff on the china walls.....JIM

Yes, it came with a small tube of ultra black. We too did copper coat and black right stuff, some high heat silicone around the exhaust cross over.
