Im going to install the rubber strip that was originally stapled to the flange behind the rear bumper of the GSX.

The original staples are intact. Do I careful remove them and reinstall? The seal didn't come with new staples... I'm having flashbacks of when I installed the staples on the wheel well flaps. That was a real female dog....

I just did this with the Scout. The window fuzzies were stapled in. The easiest thing to do is forget the pre-existing holes. Clamp the new seal in place and drill new ones. I tried like hell to make the new staples fit the old holes as I didn't want to drill any new holes in the original parts, that was nothing but an exercise in frustration. The new staples were bigger than the originals both in diameter and length. There was also no rhyme or reason to the placement of the factory staples so I said the hell with it and drilled. I've been sleeping fine ever since..

I installed a new strip on mine during resto. My staples were intact and the body shop just painted over them. I carefully opened them up (did not pull them out) so that I could press the new rubber strip on. And then carefully bent the staples back over. Once the bumper is on, I only really see two of them, rest are covered.

Jason, Does anyone repop this strip, if not can you share dimensions and rubber thickness. Something I have been meaning to do too.
    Thanks,

I bought one of these from Cars: 1970 Buick Rear Bumper Filler – Old Buick Parts (BF70)

I have a May build 70 here. It has staples, but the rubber was long gone.

I made staples as mine were bad but rubber was reused . Small pick tool and lined them up best i could. wasn't that bad, good luck.
