Had some “Me” time this morning so I figured I’d assemble one head. With the 1125 springs for the 455 I got anywhere from 185 to 205 lbs. on the seat @ 1.72 to 1.74 installed height. At full open (.568 lift) 380 to 390 lbs. Spacing between coils at full lift is .060 I’m calling it good. The only way to reduce pressure would be to leave out my spring seats, but the spring wiggles around too much. Pics of the 1130 350 spring compared to the 1125 455 spring. And pics of the springs and installed and a pic of the spring at full lift.
Mark, In my opinion that's just too much over the nose pressures for a flat tappet cam, especially one that sees much street driving. Just sayin'. Tom T.
If it’s a hydro roller I would ask to see what the cam card calls for? that seat pressure seems a bit high.
So those 455 springs need the locator to keep i.d. from dancing around? Must have a larger i.d than the 350 super duals? I wouldn't run that much poundage. You have good rocker body clearance? I shimmed my 1130's to get 135/335 with still a generous amount of coil bind clearance. They all weaken with use & age so the shims got me back to new + specs. I agree with Jim, you don't want to beat your valve seats to death....
I can make a comparison for you with BBC Hydro roller motor with there 3/8" valves if you like. 160 on the seat is more then enough to spin them to 7000 rpm, and mind you they have bigger heavier valves then your 350 does!
