1BadWagon i got too many parts.....

so i finally started rebuilding my afb for the 65 and discovered the lower half of the carb is garbage due to the exhaust from the cross over underneath it eating up the bottom of the base plate. luckily i have another one in good shape so ill do that one instead. problem is the choke is screwed up on both of them. one has the stock exhaust heated choke and the other has a modified stock choke that someone tried to turn into an electric choke and it doesnt work very well. my question is, does anybody know where i can get an electric choke unit that will bolt in place of the stock one and still function like it should? the electric one on it now is binding and doesnt open and i think it has the wrong linkages on it so i just want one that i can bolt on and be done with it. will one off an edelbrock work on a stock afb? thanks randy:beers2:

Randy,I don't have a specific answer to your question but you may want to check on Edelbrock's accesories for their carbs.E carbs are basically AFB's but I don't know that their current choke will work for your application, may be worth looking into it.You also may want to check with the fellows in the Nailhead forum,I've read there about the base plate problems and the need for some type of stainless isolating plate between the carb and the manifold.Good luck with it.

i do have a plate for inbetween the carb and manifold. we made a few of them out of aluminum because i can never find them at any parts store. i always use them when i work on these 300 340s because of that same issue. i also plug the holes in the manifold too normally.... in this case i dont remember if i plugged them or not. i actually have a holley on the engine now and im putting it back to stock. anyways im going to try pulling the choke unit off an edelbrock 600 we have sitting here and try it on the afb.
    stay tuned. randy:beers2:
