So, after a little under a year later, I've found the culprit.

A little tweak to the secondary tension spring was the remedy. Now I just have to figure out the wheelhop issue BUT I'm out of the woods in terms of the original issue.

Thanks for all the input. It runs like a total bear now.

So the spacers weren’t the issue causing wheelhop?

    Apparently not, unfortunately.

Adjustable upper arms and urethane bushings in the ears will take the hop out

Air bag inside right rear coil spring?

My 70 4 speed had horrible wheelhop. Urethane bushings and rear sway bar eliminated it completely.

Wheel hop on an A-body? What is the rear ride-height, measured the way GM suggests?

Strange, never ever had it and I run air shocks too.

I'm leaning toward adjustable upper arms. Bushings are PST that are a year old.

I haven't measured it but it looks pretty close to me.

They wheel hopped when new,...adjusting the pinion angle and firmer bushings solved our wheel hop problem,...

That and power level/tires,....more power will knock them off faster which will keep it from hopping to an extent also

Probably going to go with some adjustable UMI uppers and see how that plays out.

I think you'll find the back is high and the pinion angle is off..

Even with stock replacement shocks and springs?

I say that because it seems to sit lower now that those metal spacers are no longer sitting on top of the springs.

At the very least, my fuel issue is fixed, so now I can concentrate on this annoyance.

Rear suspension height has nothing to do with pinion angle. The easiest way to adjust pinion angle is with adjustable upper control arms.

Brett, your pinion angle may fine. You haven't checked it. You may be trying to fix something that isn't broken. Don't be a parts changer, be a mechanic. Test and evaluate.

I'm doing my best taking into account the limitations I have in regard to working space, tools, etc.

I'm at the mercy of my good friend and the ability to get the car to his shop. It may take longer than I'd like but I'll figure it out.
