Love the color! I myself did a frame off rust repair 65GS and did most of it by hand.
You've done a great job so far! Good luck in the near future :)

Today I installed the transmission and engine. First the transmission from below and then the engine with a crane. Went smooth.

Slowly but surely I'm making progress. Just a few things left before I can fire it up.

But now I noticed this on my floor shifter:

It looks like it is repaired once? Some weird brace on the inside.
And unfortunately the mechanism to lift the lower bar (the pulling of the chrome piece, before you can shift) isn't functioning well anymore. One of the sides is broken. Not sure if that can be repaired since it's not metal, so welding is out of the option.

No, RAL 3028. It's red. Not Buick red, I know, but A) I don't care and B) I like it.
My phone makes it look orange.

I use reg old RED engine paint. I dont really care if its 100% correct Buick red. If it was Chevy orange it'd probably not run right.

    Super nice!!
So those are stock heads painted silver?
What else is done to the motor? and what are the rear gears?

Yes all stock. All the oil modifications are done, new bearings, crank is ground to the correct clearances (I can't measure it myself, but I specifically stated my desired clearance), new rings, block is honed. Heads and valves have been inspected. And of course the oil pump is set up with the correct clearance as well.

Rear gear is 3.07 slip diff.

And does anyone of you know what these relays(?) are? I packed it with the grommet/gasket of the high beam switch.

But I cannot find a single photo showing them. And I made a lot. But I can't remember it and have no clue.

Edit: the 87912V shows a horn relay on Google. So it will probably be somewhere near the fusebox then.

I found the image in the manual. Thank you. Pretty hard to decipher where it should go, but I suppose that will become clear with the connectors during install.

So I have finished the installation of the engine and it is ready to fire up for the first time in 7 years.
I've "re-gasketed" my transmission (TH400) and afterwards I added about 6 qts of ATF. I understand the TH400 has a capacity of about 11, but some fluid remains in the torque converter, so you need to add less at first.
Is 6 qts enough to start the engine for the first time? I've read that number somewhere on this forum. Since you have to check the dipstick with a running engine I'm a bit at a loss where to start now.

I start mine with car level and rear wheels off the ground and check fluid level, adding until it is in the 1/2 to Full zone, then go through gears slowly and hold in each gear about 5 seconds a few times, then check and add to get to the full mark, then take and do a short drive.

Then check level again, and if good, take it out and run it about 15 to 20 minutes highway and get it thouroughly hot and check again.

I started it today! It works!!! :D:D
Had a few leaks, first fuel, so I shut it off again. Had to do that a couple of times actually, but in the end no more fuel leaks.
Then I noticed a few coolant leaks, but tightening some bolts fixed that.
And finally an oil leak, but I suspect the valve cover in the back. Wasn't really tight, so after tightening it seems ok too.

So I think and hope it's leak free :)

I didn't have my fans installed yet, and it did warm up quite quickly, so I had to shut it down a few times. But breaking in went well. And the most important thing, my oil pressure is good! In the end I had 28 psi idling. The oil was fairly hot already so I'm sure it will be good after a highway trip.

The transmission also engaged, so I'm in the right ballpark. Next on the list is adding oil to the rear and fluid to the brake system and some extra to the transmission then I can take it for a spin around the block :D
