I did not have a guage on it at that time. You could get away with spraying a stock 350. I wouldn't go over 100 hp shot unless you really want to chance it. I have the pump that I used on my 350. It is a TA Perf. Carter street strip pump and its for sale $30. :Brow:

    Nitrous backfire............

How long is the fuel line feed to the nitroius soleniod? And how far from the sloeniod to the plate? You have jet extensions in the carb right? Being you cam is small, you must be having a lean condition to cause the backfire. Was the backfire immediately after you floored it or did it take a sec to happen? I like the WOT switch. This should engage the nitrous as soon as your foot hits the floor as you like it but if you want to control where it comes in at a RPM Switch would be the answer. You could also get a timer but that starts to get expensive. Is you nitrous pill reall larger than your fuel? THat doesn't seem right unless your running 7psi fuel presure to your fuel solenoid. I ran a custom plate from Compucar that spreyed front to rear in my SP1 intake. It was setup for my intake and was drilled for the intake tilt and to spray directly into the runners. I had no problems with it and it worked great. I still say for all the guys stuck running a dual plane intake and want mmore to go to a Direct Port setup. The motor should survive a little better from a more even fuel distribution and you can even richin up lean cylinders by upping the fuel jets. Kits start a a 150hp shot so its not scarry or anything... :TU:

    Sprayin when Mashin to floor

Buicks4Speed Thanks for the reply. The backfire happened as soon as I hit the floor. I heard that the fireball went under the car. I had a fire in the carb but I was able to put it out by starting car up. The length of my hoses are as follows-Gas line "T"from Regulator Is 24 inches to Solenoid. The Nitrous line from solenoid to rear of carb is 18 inches. The Gas from the solenoid to the front of carb is 12 inches. The fuel pressure is set for 7-71/2 lbs. The regulator does have a way to cut down on fuel pressure by using a vaccum line from the carb to the regulator. This way when you drive down the road you have 3 lbs. pressure and when you floor it you have 7 lbs. of pressure. Maybe this is causing the problem. I also dont have jet extentions on the carb either. I do have the timing dropped 6 degrees also but it did not seem to affect the car when flooring it off the bottle. My best run was when I turned the Nitrous on as soon as I floored it. That Tach went to 5200 and stayed there I think I shifted at 57-5800 hard to tell to tell you the truth. Everything happens very quickly on the bottle. Now if I can floor it on the bottle that would be nice any suggestions?

    Thanks a lot, Guy

I forgot to tell you the jets 62 Nitrous 57 for the Gas. The carb is a 750 dbl pump 1 inch spacer used Jets are 72 front 80 in the rear.

    A few things....

Run a jumper wire to the fuel solenoid to check it to make sure it is "clicking". Double check the wiring to make sure you have power making it to the solenoid and there is not a loose connection. The check the fuel jet for some junk that might be blocking it. If you have an electric fuel pump, you can also put a towel under the plate, turn on the fuel pump, and activate the solenoid briefly and check for flow and pressure. Take the vaccum hose off the regulator when your using nitrous!! The only difference it makes is what the carb sees and the carb should be fine with 7-8 psi. You MUST have jet extension in the rear on the carb or you will run lean on the launch and your 60ft will be off be at least a tenth. It most likely isn't a problem on motor running 13's but on spray with the harder launch, you can have problems(backfire or burnt pistons). Especially if your float level is a little low.

On you setup, you should only get a nitrous backfire through the carb from a lean condition. Either your fuel soleniod didn't open, too low of fuel pressure on lauch, or something was blocking the flow. It is also possible that if you took off the rear fuel bowl you could have had air in the rear accelerator pump SO when you put the peddle to the floor the rear accelerator pump only shot air. THAT would cause a lean backfire on the launch. Make sure to always prime the rear pump after every time you pull the rear bowl.

I would say your converter is too loose. If you can get 3000 on the brakes then it is like a 3800-4000 stall. You can't hold the brakes under full throttle so you aren't even stalling the converter all the way. I would throw in the Hughs. You should see an improvement. :TU:

You fuel lines for the nitrous kit are a bit long but if you aren't having any regular problems I would mess with it. It sounded like the backfire was a one time accident. If you had the nitrous run through a rpm switch, the motor stumble would have happened before the nitrous came on. Just something to think about.

Buicks4Speed Thanks for the reply, When I had the backfire it was the first time down the track, it seemed ok after I hit the Nitrous after I was going down the track. I was just too scared to try again by stomping to the floor on the line. But maybe since everything was primed maybe it would be ok. I will get those jet extensions and take vacume line off the regulator, this mainly works good for street driving anyways. Maybe I can also try a larger shooter for the secondaries and maybe re set for a larger shot also. I do know that when I went down the highway on the way to the track I did try the Nitrous switch with gas on only and the car slowed down which was telling me that the gas part of the Nitrous was working. Should I try something like doing the burnout in 3rd gear and get the Nitrous on so it is primed or maybe just have the system on while going to the track and just floor it to get everything primed up. :Do No: :3gears:

I arm my nitrous just before the burn out. Right after i get into high and the tire start to heat up, I let off the line lock and tap the peddle to the floor a couple of times activating the nitrous. It can make for cool 60ft burnouts but I just do it coming out of the burnout box. Setup the carb to work best on motor. A larger secondary shot is a good idea. With the loose converter it :TU: will be hard to give it too much shot with a 30cc pump. Just put a aggressive pump cam on it and up the squirter size. It would be good to wire a fuel cut off switch on the fuel regulator for the nitrous. That way if the fuel pressure isn't there the nitrous won't come on and give you a big boom.

Here is a update on all that. My backfire was actually caused by too much bottle pressure. I found this out later on. The thermostat on the heaters just really don't work right. Keeping bottle pressure at 1000-1050lbs was best.

In 2005 I managed to run 11.87@110 then broke a driveshaft. In 2006 I put in a 200r4 with lockup convertor set up for the nitrous, 3000 stall. I detuned the motor for a while to get used to the trans and break it in. With just a 50 shot of nitrous I still went 12.60@105 Then I put in the 125 shot and went 11.81@114. But my new problem now was the engine was overreving 1st gear now because of the extra nitrous the trans was shifting later on the governor and now I was hitting the rev limiter at 6400 at the same time it hit second gear. Well that was my last run for the year.

In 2007 I got the governor fixed but decided at the same time that I just wanted to use a little less nitrous just in case the engine overreved on the the 125 shot so I took the shot down to about a 100 shot. I ran my timing at 30 total I took about 40 hp out of the nitrous. I still ran 12.001@110 1.61 60ft. At this time I have not gone back to the 125 shot maybe in Oct.

Got laid off back in July. Car has been on the backburner ever since. I did manage to go to the Buick nationals at Norwalk Ohio on June 1st 08. I ran my 125 shot and went 11.90@113, 1.78 60ft. That was basically put it to the floor but not too fast, just enough to get it rolling on the nitrous and to the floor. My second run I got a lot of wheel hop and I actually thought I broke something. I still went 12.03@111, 1.76 60ft. I decided after that I had better wait till I got home to see what my wheel hoping problems are. After this I ran on the motor and went 13.66@ 98, 1.90 60ft. I went on to where there were 4 of us left then I lose to a 13.63 on a 13.65 dial in.

I am going to be looking at the rear control arm bushings and check my pinion angle and such. I have Hop Stop bars on the car but something has the rear hopping hard. I need to check out all of this crap. I seen though that there are bars that can be put between the upper and lower control arms. I am going to look into this.

What I want to do right now is just be able to get the car out of the hole without hopping. I had that tire pressure down to 12 lbs. I started at about 18. I have MT drag radials. Then I want to try a 150 shot on it. I seen that intake video on the dual vs. single plane intakes. Nice video and interesting. I would like to put my 2 inch open spacer on it. I got more power in the upper range with this. But I would need a different hood. My air cleaner wouldn't fit. It just fits now with the one inch spacer and plus the half inch nitrous spacer.

What I really want to do is to hog out the heads some more get some of those special rods out there then decide whether I want to go Procharger or Turbo. The Procharger will work in the upper rpm more and the turbo will work more on the bottom end of the rpm range. Which that is good too. My brother has a Procharger on his Mustang and it rocks. His buddy has a Turbo on his car and it rocks also. I like the nitrous but it is something that you can't have all the time. My original cam in the car was a TA 510.(would like to go back to this). This cam liked the upper rpm range a lot. The thing sounded totally mean. I never ran Nitrous with it. I later had went to a smaller cam from Lunati. This got me out of the hole quicker. Bet that TA 510 would rock on some Nitrous.

But most of my concentration has been on getting a new job so not much car work going on here. I am looking for a better 2009. :beers2:

This has been my last run at the track as I had to go back to School to get a new career. I ran a 11.90 with out mashing it to the floor off the line. I hope to come back at some time but I do not know when this will happen. The 140 Mallory gave up on me in late 2010. I took it apart and it was full of crap in it. I cleaned it up and put it back together and it worked then but the next time I tried to start it up the pump did not work. I am parked for a while now.

Should have Andy's engine done for the 2015 season so if he gets it in a car and you line up against him you'll have some N/A competition. When he gets the procharger installed you'll need a much bigger shot of nitrous just to keep up.:Brow: GL
