Collecting parts had been a nightmare. Took me a long to find a trans, bellhousing worth buying and I'm still collecting "reproduction" parts. First I had to wait months for a reproduction shifter that cost me an arm and a leg. At least it seems like a nice piece. Then I didn't research pedals and mistakingly bought a Chevelle setup that clearly wouldn't work as a bolt on. Then I buy a set from someone I thought was reputable and shows a nice setup on their website. Finally get them after much time passes and this is what I get.
I also bought a floor hump from them and that doesn't fit. Contacts the shifter on the drivers side before fitting the contour of the floor. I haven't gotten a shifter boot yet to see if I can safely trim it and still fit the boot or not.
Yuuuuup! And the brake pedal is welded on crooked. Not to mention the top portion of the arm on the clutch contacts the brake mount so it doesn't move the full travel. These are things I can fix with some cutting here and rewelding but these parts are being sold as direct fit reproductions. I could of easily bought from other vendors and probably had a better experience. I think 4speedconversions will be getting my money from now on.
save time and aggravation... http://www.ebay.com/itm/BUICK-GS-sk...ash=item489136b390:g:gdEAAOSwGYVXCz8M&vxp=mtr Something I found is that the pedals and bolt holding them are the only different parts from auto/4 speed. The bracket that bolts to the firewall is the same. You only need to remove the pedals and switch them out with the longer bolt.
I just need pedals. I'm using a hydraulic throwout bearing and master cylinder but need pedals so finish mock up of the master on the firewall. Still waiting for a response from the parts place on the pedals and the floor hump.
My Zbar came from TPP Everything else just about came from OPGI I also found for the clutch start safety switch, its the same as a pontiac switch. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-72-GTO...ash=item51e88d3266:g:3PUAAOSwOVpXaYEN&vxp=mtr
I bought my shifter and components from opgi. They're quite nice but kept getting backordered and pushed back even though it said in stock. They also don't have pedal assemblies. That's about the only part I need besides a bracket for my master. Just need to figure out mounting and figure out the floor hump (and boots for it)
A good floor hump is one for a 67 chevelle with a console (the hump for one without a console wont work) http://www.ebay.com/itm/GMK40305076...ion-Floor-Shift-Hump-Goodmark-F-/222102344623
That looks a bit more opened up in the rear drivers corner. Guess I shouldn't of trusted the parts place claiming theirs fit. They have so many Buick "reproduction" prices and I thought I'd read enough good things about them. Live and learn I guess.
Here's a set for sale here: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?312948-4-speed-pedal-assembly Looks like you'd need to fill and re-drill the rod hole to clean it up. Good luck returning the parts to TPP. They're not return friendly in my experience.
Opgi supplies the hump in my car But they sent the one for without a console. Jared had to modify it so it was not a huge hump and the boot and ring fit it perfectly
What boot was used for yours? Or does anybody know where to get the boot for the 67 non console Chevelle hump?
I'll put that on the list. TPP got back to me on the pedals and said they'd exchange them but probably won't be another 2 weeks till I get them (shipping these back and have to wait). The floor hump they say should work. I'm using a reproduction Buick comp plus shifter from opgi along with their bracket. Everything looks like it should to me. Does my shifter placement look out of place? Please excuse the crude hole cutting, just wanted to get the shifter thru the floor so I could work out where the floor hump should go.
Same shifter I have Placement looks good When you get the floor hump you'll find it fits the contours of the floor really nice. That will help you place it
That's what I thought, I don't have anything to make it out of the ordinary. I just think their piece is made wrong for this application. Thanks for all the help. It's making me hate this project less.
Well the parts place ended up giving me a full refund for both parts. I bought a goodmark floor hump for a 67 Chevelle and looks like it's actually going to fit great. Bought it at Rock auto for $40. Haven't bought new pedals yet.
OK guys, I've seen several people in different threads mention that the chevelle pedals are wrong, won't work, etc.?? A few years back my brother had a 69 Chevelle that we converted to auto. I have the pedals, firewall plate with hole and boot for clutch rod to pass through, the clutch rod from pedal to z bar, the z bar, the frame bracket, rod from z bar to clutch fork, and the clutch fork. All I need is a BOP bell housing, new clutch,TO bearing, and I have everything I need. Other than the fact that it may not be 100% original or correct for a Buick, I can't see how this isn't a bolt on and go set up???
