I went 4-wheeler riding with some buddies out in the National Forest Saturday afternoon, and had a little *surprise* when we returned to the shop. Follow along the sad chain of events (Rusty you might wanna turn your head)...

This first shot is of a nice set of black marks. Unfortunately, though, they aren't from a long smoky burnout, but are skid marks...

This second picture is where the skid marks end, and a 24+ inch high (there's more buried) concrete curb *used* to extend out of the ground, until it was litterally broken in half...

The third picture in this series is of a 4ft by 12ft ditch with the dirt, weeds, and gravel all tore up...

Here we'll see a 4-5 foot high concrete curb//culvert combo, that was used as a ramp...

Nah, they didn't take off, because they couldn't! Late '80s Dodge 1-ton with a horse trailer...one of the locals was stopping by to see if they could borrow our open trailer, was attempting to turn left into our shop, and then from there it gets *foggy*. He first said his foot slipped off the clutch and he crossed the center line in front of the Dodge, then he said he didn't cross the line, so who knows. The crappy part is that the Missouri Highway Patrol would NOT come to investigate, because it was in the city limits, as they've taken too many butt chewings from the locals. Anyway, one of our "Barny Fife" local cops, who has been on the job a week, "investigated" it, but gave no tickets...so no one knows WHO is at fault. The owner of the Dodge just took out insurance the day before, but wasn't even in the truck, and the guy that caused the whole thing was in someone else's truck as well.

So, multiple insurance companies, no one deemed faulty, and one trailer out of commision. And all at the WORST part of the year for us...

Yep, that is the big boy. The Dodge came to rest with the passenger side fender inside the trailer, high centered on the curb/culvert. We're lucky it was this week and not next, as we'd have had almost a 1/2 mil worth of cars in...don't think the guys $25k liability limit would put much of a dent into replacing the cars!

First Mike Wowk's trailer stolen and no cops give a rats ass, now this and they don't care either.

What the hell is wrong with this world?? :blast: :blast:

What good is law enforcement if they don't enforce the law????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Too many Dodges in this story

Let me get this straight.......the guy wanting to borrow your open trailer hit the enclosed with his Dodge

Or he forced another Dodge with a horse trailer into your enclosed. :Do No:

No no no ..... that's not it.

Rob was hauling horses in his enclosed that got hit by a Dodge going 80-ish. The guy that borrowed his open trailer narrowly missed getting hit by the flying concrete after Rob nailed the ditch in his four-wheeler ........... :puzzled:

LOL! No, the guy wanting to borrow the trailer was in an early '90s Chevrolet...the Dodge was east bound (coming down the hill), and swerved to miss the Chevy. Of course, this is all hearsay, as we showed up just as they were finishing cleaning it up...the cops didn't notify us it had happened! Someone saw it, stopped by and told dad, and he drove across town to check it out. They saw him get out of the suburban, and the owner of the truck said "We don't need the coroner, you can leave!" Dad said, "I guess you DO need the coroner, because that's my trailer you're parked in!" It's a screwed up mess...

    Duct tape seals pretty well

Without seeing the damage up close it does look like you could jack and come along it back into shape do some riviting or screws until the seasons over and get it repaired properly...........

Just a thought. Like you needed MORE work eh?

    Obviously, it's the horse's fault.

Rob, I don't know how things work in Missouri, but doesn't your insurance pay for it regardless of who's at fault and regardless of their liability limitations? That's how it works in Michigan anyway. Nice system; the insurance companies get to duke it out after you've got the check in your hands.

Anyway, sorry about your loss. But like you said, be thankful it was empty.

    Brian:

I don't know if we could or not. It put a hurtin' on the door and it's attaching points, and the trailer now has a nice "dovetail" from about 6-8 ft back on the TOP. And, we may have to torch the electric jacks off if/when they tell us what to do with it, because it warped the goat piss out of 'em, from top to bottom.

It probably woulda been REAL bad had it been attached to the truck and not been able to move. It scooted the entire thing about 3ft sideways, and this thing is well over 10k as it sits...it even moved the jacks on the opposite end. We might be able to rig something up for the time being, but holy cow, even that is gonna me a major project.

I'm afraid they're gonna wanna try and fix it, and it's not gonna ever be worth a darn anymore...

    Blackgold:

I don't know how it's gonna work...it's screwed up because the instigating truck (Chevy) never made contact with the truck that hit the trailer (Dodge). But, we have insurance on the truck & trailer (seperate), and we insure them through the same company as the Chevy...so if he's found to be at fault, then at least they can keep it "in house".

It just SUCKS...hey, is that Rusty I hear crying in the background?
