How would you describe Diplomat blue? Dark? Medium? Navy?

Looking at Diplomat blue.. Would it be a medium blue? Dark blue? Considered a navy blue? Just daydreaming between zoom meetings, administrative issues, and the ho hum... Buicks and coffee are keeping me going.. LOL

I would say it's on the darker side.

Yeah Medium/Dark. I think of dark as navy almost black. It's a tuff one to describe

Compared to the current blues it's medium,...older colors,.. definitely a darker hue

1970 Buick Diplomat Blue Poly is more of a true blue than 1969 Twilight Blue. It's a little less purple / gray so it is not as "bright". Also, while there is obviously metallic in Diplomat, it is a VERY subtle metallic. Base / clear painted cars certainly "pop" more than the original paint Diplomat cars did.

As far as on the shade spectrum we need to look at 1971-1974 to put things into prospective. 1971 Nocturn Blue is noticably darker, and I would say the "labelers" are suggesting it is a midnight blue.

1972 Royal blue poly continues the theme of a dark blue while 1973 and 1974 Midnight Blue is actually quite bright in the sun with its metallic and possibly the best looking of the bunch.

Diplomat is the perfect blue if you wanted to "run `'shine" in the fall of 69. It's not overly flashy and contrasted with a black interior becomes even less so.

They are the same color despite the naming difference

The best of the blues used by Buick in that era, IMHO.

Just thinking of current blues that would be close to the color, maybe something with more “pop”, but would look good on a 70-72 body style. There’s some Porsche colors…

To me it depends on what year of vehicle your looking at.

When I look at my car (63 skylark) or any other car from 62-65 with original factory diplomat blue paint it looks almost black. And I have had multiple people say my car is black.

When I look at newer cars 66-75 or so the color looks much lighter. Huge difference imo.

To me it looks like 2 different colors.

I would describe it as the “good looking” blue, although I think the 71-72 Stratomist blue has it beat hands down. So I guess I would call the Stratomist blue the “best looking” blue.

Saw this some years back, and fell in love. 2011 Supersonic Blue.

I think most would agree with you!

Two other blues from back in the day that I really like. My buddy had a '69 Mach 1 in Acapulco Blue - wow, what a looker. Then B3 blue from the Mopar palate.

Ryans-GSX Have fun, life is short.

I love the stratomist blue myself but my favorite color Buick of all time is 1972 Code 21 Crystal Blue Poly. To me its stunning and rarely seen. My old Skylark in that color got more compliments on the paint color then any other Buick other than the Disco GS.

You may want to do a spray out of the '73 Buick Midnight Blue.

Neighbor has a dark blue sea beamer. Newer ones that pop are often tri coats
