I put a dime sized chip in the paint on my 53, I
have paint on hand that is a perfect match. Over the years I have covered tiny problems with a tiny brush, but this is in an area on the door that will stand out. I would like to avoid going to a paint shop if possible. Any suggestions?

What I did: make sure all loose paint is removed around the chip circumference. Sand the edges lightly. Tape off areas around the chip to prevent overspray. Use an air brush - very important! You want to build up the new paint slowly until its level with the old paint. Once done, polish and wax.

Fill with this let it dry a day or do,.sand with 600 wet till level,..let dry for an hour or so,..sand over it and the surrounding 6in area around it with 1000grit spray the color a half-in past the edged of the repair,..then the clear an inch or so past where the color stopped,...then put some reducer in the gun and spray it over the clear edges,....if it's single stage just do the same over the color edges

Then let dry and polish it up

    Ethan,
Are you talking about using a full size gun? I assume so, but wanted to confirm.
