Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I need to figure out why I am no longer getting notified there has been new post or messages posted. Very frustrating.
Jim I completely agree with what you are saying about what the kids are taught now days. I am retired Army and I was reading in one of my magazines that the services are having trouble getting enough good recruits because over 74% of the kids now days do not qualify for service because of their physical condition (too fat), poor academic standings (did not apply themselves in high school and their grades are too low), and lack of morals (they were never taught the basics of self discipline, respect, courtesy, values, and work ethics by their parents). It has gotten to the point where my wife and I will not go to restaurants that advertise specials for kids because she is afraid I will choke the s##t out of some parents for letting their kids run around like little banshees. Now I am on my soapbox.
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas,
    Dale

I am sure the same as most over seas and each company has a check list for passing DORMAN gear . What they think is good enough to put their name on.
I know randy USA standard gears get what ever is on sale from other manufactures ...some time you can get some really good gears Like we had GM gears the last time we ordered a bunch 3.42 3.73 gears...They all set up excellent. They probably made a deal with GM over flow products and just boxed them up in the USA standard boxes. I have had excel gear in the USA and other off brands
The only problem USUALLY I find with cheap gears is the quiet factor. The strength is fine just not as a refined finish on the gear face and edges ...

In other words, I DO NOT know who is making dormans gears. :) Brian? Hear anything on the Dormans?

The Dorman listing gives incomplete information, says they fit 64-72 BOP 8.25" ring gear, A body and even Electra???
The seller has 3.08, 3.73, and 3.90 ratios avail for under $65.
    DORMAN 697803
    DORMAN 697805
    DORMAN 697804

    No word here.
A $99.00 gearset will look like a $99.00 gearset. The extra machining procedures,to give that refined finish that Jim mentioned,is what I like to see. They are also more user-friendly and are a little forgiving on the pattern and setup. An opposite of that would be some of the cheaper Richmond’s,which can be very finicky to get a pattern that you are comfortable with. They are also very hard,so there is very little margin for error. Not saying you can’t have success with them, but for the occasional do-it-yourselfer,you might want a better gearset.

DITTO ... Early in my rear differential career... ( lol career funny huh) I did the less expensive gear AND spent more time on the set-up time...now I have girl drag racing and I want my time back and so the customer will just have to pay a little more for the gear I am using to save me that time. Same reason I like the Motives,US Gear, and similar. Do NOT confuse US Gear with USA Gear. Totally different.
I build it as if I am building it for myself.
Strange and Moser were both using/selling US Gear at one time. Not sure if they still are. I just buy the housings and hand-pick all the parts.

I race with USA standard gears and still have them in the 10.60 car 10 bolt 8.5 trans brake 5000 stall mobile..... Still have to check all your parts year after year to be sure they are all snug and up to the job... pushing parts to the limits you have keep up with things. NOTHING lasts forever... I would never sell anything I did not use or test. :)
A stated earlier... really is all on the installer... Engines transmissions rear ends.
The best parts are great BUT they will never be a substitute for correct install.
I remember putting together JUNK USED (obviously not total scrape just old stuff) swap meet part sbc and was always totally amazed that the used junk would hold as long as it was properly assembled...that is for what the parts were...lol.

I am lucky that we have a guy here in town that grew up working on the old cars and is the go to guy for manual transmissions, rear ends, basically anything old school. I don't know what we will do when he finally decides to retire.
