I have hd a look around and I cannot find how much a 76 Electra limited 455 with T400 would weigh from factory. Pounds or Kg, I do not mind. Thanks!
sticker has washed away sadly. Geez, that sounds a little bit much. Thats near 3000kg. seems a thousand kg too much. Thanks anyway!
I think Smartin would know. He's a wealth of information like that. The Riviera from that time weighed in at 4800 lbs @ about 218 inches long. How much bigger is the electra. I know it's more than 2000 kg.
6495 lbs sounds way too high. I was thinking more around 5000. I don't have information on 76's. Does anyone have a 76 chassis manual?
Look in front, in the General Information section. There should be a spot (usually in the last part of that section) that has a chart with all the 1976 model numbers listed. It should state wheel base, overall length, width, front tread, rear tread, CURB WEIGHT, and liquid weights (fuel and coolant). In the 71 Chassis manual, the Electras all weighed in at around 4500. The Estate Wagon (I think) weighs in at 5000.
True. I think those numbers are not curb weight. Its with the car loaded with max passengers and all fluids.
I swear the sticker on the door of Dad's old '72 Estate Wagon said 5,500 lbs......my memory may be a little fuzzy though. ou:
Do you mean this sticker?: But can't find the weight on it 5,200 lbs maybe? From the 1972 Buick Facts Book: 75 Electra curb weight (taken from the 1975 Buick Product Selling Information album): 225: HT coupe 4743, HT sedan 4867 Ltd: HT coupe 4794, HT sedan 4923
attention all you sticker guys: GVWR IS NOT CURB WEIGHT. GVWR is "Gross Vehicle Weight Rating" and tells you what the maximum designed PAYLOAD PLUS CURB WEIGHT is. the factory is telling you that the car is NOT SAFE to operate if you pile 12 people into the car and fill the trunk with lead. that's all it's for. same thing with GAWR except that's telling you the maximum SAFE load per axle ( Gross Axle Weight Rating ). when you're dealing with a car that's 30+ years old i'm sure it's a Bad Idea to even attempt to approach the original factory rated maximum load.
One of my books says: 2dr 225=4502--2dr Limited=4521 4dr 225=4641--4dr Limited=4709 I think this is without gas and without any options. I think mine weights about 5070 with a full tank of gas.
Correct. I think the "curb weight" of my 73' Grand Ville 4dr is something like 4530 lbs. I think I read somewhere. I will check for sure.
A Friend of mine who is into trains told me the auto manufactures used to lie about the weight of cars, so more vehicles could be shipped per rail car. I don't know if it's true or not, the best way to find out what your car weighs is to take it to a scale at a truck stop. Buick states mine weighs 4647 lbs. But the scale said 5040 lbs. with 1/2 tank of fuel and no driver. The fuel, fluids, and spare could account for the difference of 393 lbs. But why does my Riviera at 4647 lbs.and a length of 223.4 weigh more then a LeSabre or Centurion at 4339/4374 lbs. and 224.2, sound deadener ???
My 71 Centurion convertible weighed in at 4651 when I weighed it 2 years ago. That was without spare tire or jack in the trunk, and no driver. Probably 1/4 tank of fuel. So, I'd be more willing to say the normal operating weight is close to 47-4800 lbz
