You think we need to get rid of the rear? Well, I guess $500 is not too high is it? LOL
Alright, bring on the expert and tell me if a 31 ever came with a 27 rearend. We need an answer to see what we're dealing with here. Like I wrote in the other thread, this car was ordered by this man when he was young. He told us he never did much modification to it up until a few years back when he got the itch for speed. He did install 430 gears in the rearend. He had the original 390 gears still in the GM box that the others came in. They look new! He said the gear swap came when the car was almost new so the 390's probably didn't have over 2k miles on them.

W31's were available with and DID come with W27 rearends. I have a 70 W31with a W27 purchased new in Illinois. The original owner is still around and the build sheet for the car lists the W27 rearend. The rearend is still under the car.

If you have a "rea"l W27 rearend and are willing to sell the rearend, expect the rearend to sell between $5,000-$10,000 depending on condition.

Thanks for letting me know that a 27 could come in a 31. That clears up some things.
We now have 2 of the rears and both are in very good shape. We probably will not sell either.

Don't worry---even if anyone "fell for" my story I am not the kind of person to try to "BS" people out of parts (nor do I think you guys are). I guess those type statements are better left told in person so it's clear you are joking...I keep forgetting this is the Internet and context gets lost sometimes. Sorry guys if anyone thought I was really serious. We had a recent cold snap down here so winter is finally sinking in. Thanks
