How about 1/2" long studs in front rotors?

One thing leads to another and ended up having to order new tuff aftermarket axles for a 8.875 12 bolt. These axles are coming with 1/2 inch screw in long studs (ARP).

I am going to need long studs in the front rotors also (3/4 inch shank wheels) , but I don't really want 7/16ths in the front and 1/2 inch in the back.

Is it as easy as knocking out the 7/16ths and drilling the rotors to .50 and pressing in new studs? Can replacement (factory type) rotors be bought for 1/2 inch studs? I know I can step up to Wilwood or Aerospace 1/2 inchers, but I thought I would start out on the cheap.

Also, if I can drill out the rotors to .50 inch what size studs to press in the .509's? I see ARP makes them knurled in .509, .568, .580, or thread them for 1/2 studs like the back.

Need some recomendations. Thanks very much.

    Tom,
ARP makes 7/16"x3" front studs for disc or drum brakes. They are very strong. I have used them many times on different vehicles and never had any problems. Aftermarket wheels will be needed unless you want to cut the studs down. I have done this before also.

    OK 7/16 it is!

Thanks! That maybe the way to go. It sure would be simpler. The new wheels take a .75 deep shank and washer lugnut. Buy the way Jegs rips you off on Lugnuts. Why in the world would they come in a package of 4? and for $14.99?

Do the old studs just press out or do I get a chance to use the big hammer and hit my thumb?

    Nice Pic! :Brow:
