Probably opening a small can of worms but what’s the concencious on the color of the hood scoop frames the hood grilles are attached to ? On line pics don’t help some are color matched to car some are painted black, I know the “x”s were color coded to the car but non”x”s weren’t ?? Memory has it the top side visible parts around the grille inserts were a color similar close to argent silver like the grill inserts. Mine are stripped to raw plastic but underside of mine are a dark gray almost definitely not argent silver, can’t believe GM went to trouble of masking and using two colors on frames ??
What year model are you asking about? '70 were the color of the car '72 are black most of the time but there are some cars from Framingham assembly plant that still had body-colored according to their owners.
Thanks It’s a 71 Stage 1 and I’m sure it’s a Framingham car as it’s was sold in Mass and spent its life here. Have had it since 73 from original owner. Been put away in storage for decades now doing a frame off etc. Just don’t remember frames being same as car color.
My unrestored 1972 was a Framingham built car. The build date was 10/71 and it has body color inserts. I spoke with Duane and he confirmed it was correct. Why I asked him, my Fremont built 1972 has black inserts. It has a build date of 4/72. Because it was built in Fremont, black was correct.
I am not sure which black is correct. The person that restored my Fremont car did them with gloss black and they look great.
My '72 GS built in Fremont in Oct. 1971, has black paint on inserts - gloss or semi-gloss, i do not know. Then again they are nearly 40 years old.
Where the grills of the scoops always black? As you can see from my picture I bought mine from a old friend I worked with and they are light faded red. And I cant ask him as he has since passed away. Didn't want to change until I knew for sure.
Yes the grilled are black a flat black . The raised ribs and borders are argent silver I was asking about the surround piece the “grilles” mount in. From what I’m told there the color of the car except for 72 which were also black with some exceptions I’m told for cars built in Framingham,ma they could be both fir 72. If their in tough shape check out Stage 1 restorations.com understand he has repos that are pretty good
