As the 482 build for my skylark gets underway, im trying to finalize a couple minor details now rather than later. Im sure this has been talked about quite a bit, but has anyone run into issues when using the holley efi and msd ignition? Have you had to use holley's Hyperspark distributor instead?
I went ahead and used the hyperspark dizzy with the V6 software. It seemed like the simplest way to get there, but I believe you can modify the Msd to become a dual-sync distributor
Im sorry for all of these questions, i have a lot of them. How easy is it to fine tune the efi with a laptop? What all are you able to fine fune with the hyperspark as well? How easy was it to run once it was all hooked up? How difficult is it to modify the MSD dizzy to be a dual sync dizzy?
We do have a separate forum just for your kind of questions, https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?forums/high-tech-for-old-iron.55/ I bet if you did a search in that Forum, you could probably find the answers to all your questions. If you want, I could move your thread into that forum.
Yeah if you could please move this thread into that forum. Ill watch those videos tonight, and do some searching in that thread a little later on tonight. I think those videos may have the information that i need Thanks Larry!
Ive watched these videos a couple times now, and from what i can understand, if i want to run an MSD ignition box, i cant control timing with the ECU from the efi. If want to run an msd distributor and have it control timing with the efi system id have to lock it out to set the timing with the ECU. Then just match the static timing i set on the hand held display by rotating the distributor base?
And with a magnetic pick up distributor would the principles be similar to the locked out distributor?
No, what you do is lock out the distributor, then install it with the engine at TDC firing #1. Then there is a procedure to phase the rotor. https://www.holley.com/blog/post/ho..._to_your_holley_sniper_fuel_injection_system/
Okay, i understand now. That doesnt seem to hard to do, just maybe time consuming at the least. The more i read these articles the more it seems that a holley Dual Sync distributor maybe a way to go (provided holley makes one for a big block buick)? Might be easier perhaps?
What Holley EFI set up are you using. Are you using their Dominator ECU. Are you using coil over plug. I have a whole EFI set up for sale obviously in the for sale section. My system used GN distributor. Coil over plug, crank trigger, and all the bells and whistle’s.
Im not 100% sure on the efi system i will be using yet. Im just game planning at the current moment for the near future. I would like to use the dominator ECU for the brains of the operation, leaning towards a dual sync distributor, and i believe i would have to run an igniton box to fire the coil? Or is it more beneficial to run the coil on plug set ups? I think i would need an igniton box for either to fire the coils
The car will be a street/ strip car, powered by a 482cui BBB about 630hp give or take once the motor is finished
I am offering a hell of a deal on a total EFI system all you would have to do would be have your intake drilled for the injectors because I’m keeping my intake. Other than that everything I have includes what you need to build a total EFI system
