Greetings, all, and well met! I'm tonweight (or JC, in meatspace), and I picked up this lovely machine at Carlisle last month. Just got my regular historic tags today, and can't wait to take it for a proper spin (though slowly at first - brakes are super-mushy right now). On "delivery night," my kids were adamant that I let them sit in it despite it being bedtime already. My son was proper weepy (maximum crocodile tears) when we got him in bed... he "really wanted to drive it tonight!" That's my boy. Heh heh. I'm coming from a background of mostly British/Euro metal (my dad is a Jaguar guy), but this piece of iconic American iron has my devotion already. That sound. Goosebumps... nothing like a big V8. I'm doing my best to document its journey with me on one of my sites, and I'll link it here if there's interest (and if that's acceptable to mods). EDIT: Linking my "journey" site for those interested: https://buick.eldritch.fun Auction photo - passenger by tonweight posted Oct 17, 2022 at 9:46 AM Driveway by tonweight posted Oct 17, 2022 at 9:45 AM Grille by tonweight posted Oct 17, 2022 at 9:45 AM Auction photo - engine bay by tonweight posted Oct 17, 2022 at 9:46 AM
@Nailhead in a 1967 : Hmm... which one does that mean I have? Nobody said it was a vinyl top delete or anything, but I definitely have the skirts and side accents without the vinyl top. I'm going to dive into some research on it over the next few months... see if I can get a clearer history of the car.
@Nailhead in a 1967 : Love the history lesson! Thanks, friend! Wonder if any of that is on the Detroit Iron disc I picked up. If not, they sure need to (get permission to) add it!
Welcome! I think a set of chrome ‘road wheels’ and shorter skirts would really look good on her. Patrick Edit: deleted my question about EU on the trim tag-my guess was wrong; Nail’67 corrected me.
Welcome from Florida! Nice Riv there tonweight, congratulations! The 1970 Riviera is my favorite year.
@Nailhead in a 1967 : I have a feeling I'll be pinging you about history/thoughts with your deep knowledge, friend. Respect and admiration. @all : Thanks for the welcome! Excited to start hunting around for mechanical bits and bobs (currently need to get the brakes and cabin exhaust smell sorted before I go for any real drives) once I get some time to wrench on it.
The person who wished "Buick would restyle the Riviera to make it more distinctive from other GM lines" must have been pleased when the '71 came out.
Welcome to the club. I've been a Riv guy from 1985 with 68 being my passion. Have had several other years / generations in that time but the 68 is my fav. Most guys feel the 70 was a sort of mismatch between the 2nd generation cars and the incoming 3rd gen Boattail. If I was to have a 70 Id want the short skirts and no side speer W/ vinyl top. Enjoy your car and keep us posted on the progress.
