Hey I’m looking for a little help, on my 77 regal w/350 vinH. Iwhen I purchased the car the a/c compressor didn’t have a belt on it, and I’m trying to figure out if need to replace it or if works. I just have not been having any luck with finding a schematic for the belts. I can’t tell if I need a dual pulley for the alternator, or how to get a belt from the drive to the compressor because of the location. And the alternator being next to it. Please advise I’ve enclosed a pic to show what I’m describing thanks

If you can grab the clutch and turn it, it’s worth trying a belt and a charge. You should be able to line the belt up from the compressor to empty grooves on the fan and balancer, but you may need the dual groove alternator pulley. Looks like you need a Dayco or equivalent 15600 belt (15/32” top width, 60” long). I think this is your routing:

When the compressor/clutch locks up, they usually take the belt off so it quits screaming.

Don’t know if this means anything but the clutch is moving freely, looking like lll have to grab a new dual pulley sometime this week and see if I can get it going and if it’s bust looks like Rock auto has them for around $150

Dont waste your time and money on a stock A6 compressor. Power hogs and all leak from the shaft seal. Spend a bit more and get the progen6 compressor. Lighter, quieter and less power to turn it. fits in the stock brackets and wont leak. Trust me, you'll be happy.
