    Hello all,

I recently unearthed the build sheet for my 1970 Skylark custom when I took the gas tank out for a cleaning, but I need some help understanding it. This is the first time I've seen one of these:

I get the boxes on the upper part have the RPO code for that item, but what about the list on the bottom? How come some items have stars next to them and some don't?

    Thanks and merry Christmas!!

The *s are the items in that list installed on your car from the factory...if I remember correctly

Starred items are options that are standard on that particular model. Since it is a Custom, there are lots of stars. All the other ones were added cost items on top of the Custom trim package.

EDIT: Look at the bottom right of that page. You see that the * = standard.

    Your car is loaded!!

Cool!! What is Y42 High Perf Grp?

Is that the SP code "high compression" engine?

Also F40 HD suspension? Bigger sway bars?

Anything else that this tells me? Sorry I know the rear gear is cut off, I will try and scan the sheet again so that is legible. I want to know my ratio!

Lift car by rearend, put in neutral, make paint dot or grease pencil mark on driveshift, turn rr rear tire exactly one turn while counting number of turns driveshaft rotates. 3 & a bit turns = 3.08 etc.:TU:

    Hello.
The OO code on the build sheet in the engine box is the SP 350 Hi comp Engine with a Four barrel carb, Auto trans and A/C
The F40 code =Heavy duty wheel, front + rear, Shock, Springs, Stabilizer shaft and bushings, rear control arm+ bushings
The Y42 code = the Hi Performance L78 350 Cu In 4 BBL Hi Comp V8 With N10 Dual Exhaust.
The Axle code I can't read but here is the breakdown LB 2.93 LL or (LO posi) 2.73 (LP posi) or LC 3.23. This is the best I can do for the axle the codes they are hard to read in my manual. The code should be stamped on the axle tube on the drivers side on the bottom of the tube be careful cleaning the tube you don't want to remove them and the may not even be there!

You have a nice option Skylark there for performance!

    Thanks
    Ron

Thanks! This is my first Buick, and I honestly had no idea what I was looking at when I first opened the hood of this car almost a year ago!

I just went and checked the build sheet, my rear is listed as LL-1, so I assume that means open rear 2.73? Thanks for the info!! I will also check the rear end code on that car to see if it matches!

Make sure it is the build sheet for your car. Just because the sheet is found in your car does not mean it is for your car. We have seen a lot of sheets just stuck in a car that actually belonged to another car going down the assembly line that day. I owned a 70 Custom that contained the tank sheet for another car.

My VIN # is 444370Z109072, can the build sheet says 09072 above 444370Z1 in the upper right corner. This means it's correct for the car right? Any other way I can verify this?

Cool! Thanks for the help guys.

I wonder if this car was ordered by the dealer like this? Seems kinda like a factory sleeper no? It looks like Hatfield Buick is still a dealership, I wonder if they'd have records that far back . . .

The 1976 Camaro I used to own was one of those situations. I gutted the interior to replace the carpet and dye the seats and found a tattered build sheet for another Camaro under one of the rear seats. Wish my car would've been that one; it had a ton of options. After pulling the other half of the rear seat, I ALSO found the correct sheet for my car. Delivered brand new to A.J. Foyt Chevrolet :Brow:

Interesting . . . are things like this just a mistake at the factory?

    Short answer: Yes.

With the frequency that it's happened in the past, I can say it's not too unusual to find a build sheet from a different car.
