Hi, I have a 66 Skylark convertible with Wildcat 350 engine. I need a new exhaust and my mechanic is recommending that I install a dual exhaust, but helpful saleswoman at Waldron says that might require replacing one manifold, which is something I do not want to undertake. She suggested that I ask the experts at BuickV8. So what's the verdict. I am not interested in performance and prefer to keep it stock (single). Should I tell my mechanic to just to the single? THANKS
Hello Wuncha, No change in exhaust manifold is necessary. The tricky part of any old exhaust replacement is just getting the old Heat Riser Valve either replaced or "fixed". That part mates to the manifold with a flat surface- the outlet is a flange the exhaust pipe mates to. If the heat riser valve its broken or has a leak - replace. Trick is to find one! once that is fixed it does not matter if you install dual exhaust or single. Single obviously requires the crossover pipe to combine the two sides. Waldron should have that part- if not it seems like something I have seen readily available. I have a 67 with a 340 that retains the single exhaust and I like it - sound and originality. Cheers T Nagel
