Help me decide how to sell my great running motor.

Just cause your motor reads 180 on a compression gauge doesn't mean 10:1. I've seen stk 3400v6 motors with over 200k crank over 200psi b4......they only had like 9:1. If you intake valve closes closer to bdc, you will make more compression.......this is the reason why when you run a large duration cam you need a higher static compression ratio.....the valve closes much later, therfor there is physically less time to build compression. You take a 9:1 motor and close the intake valve at 50* abdc, as compared to closing it at 75* abdc and you will see a drastically different cranking compression number.......that doesn't mean the rings are any better or more of sealed,.....its just simple physics.

I do understand the mechanics of static vs dynamic compression and how it relates to cam timing. My experience over the years with both 8.5 and 10.0 compression GS cars has shown me that the 71 & up motors will show compression in the 150-170 psi range while the '70 motors will be up close to 200. That's with stock and very mild performance cams which is all I've ever owned. Just my experience but thanks for the review of compression vs cam timing. :)

Ray, I got 3500.00 for my motor. Line up a perspective buyer who can drive the car and listen to the motor. You'll get more money for it that way.

Delays can happen, I wouldn't sell your current engine until the replacement is on the truck headed your way.

X2. Line up your perspective buyer now.

Yes, TSP is already advising me that it will be "months" rather than weeks. That's why I'm starting my search for a buyer for mine now to see what the options are.

Just checked with TSP and the shipper he uses and found that the engine crate that will be used for my motor must stay in the Eastern Zone that it originated in. So, here is the map of where I would be able to ship to and where I couldn't. So, can't ship to California to answer your question.

The crate actually originated at and belongs to TSP. It will be used to ship my new TSP engine to me.

I know my block was shipped to TSP from TA in a nice crate. Wonder why he (JW) cannot put the short block back into the same crate and drop off at Fastenal. Fastenal is who he said TSP uses to ship big stuff

That's what he does. He owns several crates though. My motor will be a long block carb to pan.

If jesse89 really want's your engine let him figure out a way to get a crate to you, you drop the engine into the crate and tell him to call and have it picked up. No stress for you. Or sell it locally only and don't worry about shipping at all?

I used to be able to Briz... did a tomahawk shortblock for Mark Busher JR, and his fit right back in the box TA shipped the block in... but your box was considerably smaller, just barely fit the block.. I would have to cut a slot in it for the crank snout to stick out...

So you will be getting it shipped in one of my returnable boxes.

As to shipping it to California.. that can be done, with a regular freight line.. problem is, we want the $300 box back.. Fastenal sends them back empty to me, for 50-75 bucks, whereas the freight companies charge nearly as much to send the empty box, as the same box with the engine in it.

With the regular freight companies, it would be cheaper to buy the box, than send it back.

Fastenal has changed the game in engine shipping.. and I will be happy when things get back to normal here, and they ship nationwide.
