Hello from Saudi Arabia

  1. Hello everybody,
I've been reading a few pages on the forum and found them useful.
I have just bought a 69 GS and I am waiting for it to arrive in 2 months. Sorry but US has lost 1 Buick :)
I look forward to learn from you guys as I navigate my way thru my first classic.
My dad had an 83 4 door electra that he bought new and sold of a few years ago. It happens to be the first car I crashed .
I look forward to owning a buick but I admit it's a cheaper alternative to a chevelle. The more I read about the more I am convinced it is not a trade off and the less desirable the chevelle becomes.

    It's a gs 400 .. I believe.
It's running a 455 engine bored to 464 and TH400 transmission. The previous owner has upgraded the suspension. Not sure to what extent. Obviously, I will be waiting for the car to arrive to check the exact inventory. It is also steeltop.
It needs some bodywork and new paint.

    Let's hope it arrives safe!

You will find out just how much better built the GS is over a Chevelle:)

So, uh, what's the parts situation like over there? I doubt you can walk down to the local NAPA store...

Got customs and duties issues, or can you just ship stuff straight in?

  18. I don't have a chevelle to compare.. but I am excited to receive the GS. I keep researching and looking at videos and pics. I love it already.

You nailed it. Mechanical parts should not be a problem, I believe. We had a lot GM cars in the 70s and 80s. We still do in fact.
Gs specific parts for body and interior will be very difficult. I've been looking for center console and it seems also difficult to find in USA.
Shipping light stuff shouldn't be a problem, but heavy stuff will be.
And yes I have to pay custom duty.

Another welcome from New York.Just to let you know about the quality,GM had 5 different cars and they were,in order of quality ,Cadillac then Buick, then Oldsmobile,Pontiac and last Chevy.Because they were cheaper,a lot of people did buy Chevy's.Bruno.

  20. Thanks. Good to know.
I think chevrolet caprice of the 80s must have been one of the highest sold in Saudi. My father's buick was the odd one in town. Oldsmobile and pontiac were even rarer.

Anyways, I am happy with my purchase. I planned to keep it secret until it arrives but I am too excited to keep it to myself. :)
