You said you've had the cam (212) on the shelf for a few years--were the lifters bought at the same time? I have a friend who had a problem with lifters that had been bought and sat around a year or so before use, and they never would pump up and hold. It was never decided whether there had been a bad run from the supplier or the shelf sit did it, but new ones fixed it. Great job plugging away and learning, by the way.

Thanks Patrick. Its a good feeling picking up this knowledge and having all the help from everyone.
No the lifters were bought about 3months before using. The cam sat for many years.
It may be a set of bad lifters, because I also noticed 2 spongy lifters that bleed down when pushing on the pushrods and all the others are firm. I dunno. Might be yanking it all out again. At least this time the motors all clean, painted and new bolts in!

What would be the next step in checking this? I'll bolt up the rocker shaft and check pushrod with valves closed as suggested. But what next? Pull the intake and check lifter?

Well it doesnt look good. Looks like i did find a worn lobe... You can see the last lobe is definitely shorter than the other. And check out the marks on the lifter compared to what i assume is a good swirl mark on the other...

Definitely round. Any idea why this happened? I lubed all lobes and lifter butts well. Could all the degreeing have turned it too much and whiped the lobe clean? Since heads were built is it Possible Something in the head could have been out of wack and caused it? Regardles its time to order a new cam and lifters :(
Any suggestions? Crower L3 too much?

The lifters look like they are way off center from the cam lobes?
or is that just the angle of the picture.

Paul, thats probably not the pic. They looked to be about 2/3rds on maybe less. What does that mean? Cam too far back?

I dont have a groove carved into the face of the block. But i ended up sliding my factory cam in as well as the TA cam and i can tell that the stock cam lobes sits slightly more fwd. That TA cam lobes are further back and lifters sit more offset . Close to 1/16th of an inch
